This study is to examining how participation motivation, human relations, the management process of volunteer activity of student volunteers would affect sustainability on the volunteers' satisfactory degree. In regards, a study model that enables proper interpretation of the sustainability has been created in order to grasp how each factor of the sustainability would affect the volunteers' activity. Based on the findings, the study attempted to suggest revitalizing management measures that would recommend sustainability of the student volunteers.
The surveyed were selected among those with three months of volunteering experience and from schools that have a volunteering service department or employees working for the department. Total eleven colleges, one from each region nationwide were selected for the survey samples and the regions are Kyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Kyeongnam, Kyongbuk, Jonnam, Jonbuk, Jeju and two schools from Seoul using the convenience or accidental sampling method and the cases from 477 students were used for analysis.
As for variables, the study used an exogenous, participation motivation and human relations of the volunteers, management process for volunteering activity, gender, religion financial condition which is a control variable, satisfactory degree in volunteering activity which is a meditative variable and the sustainability volunteer which is endogenous variable. Structural equation modeling was used for analyzing these variables, and a structural modeling that analyzes between concepts and a measuring model was used, which assesses whether the concepts are being measured properly.
Through the process, a studying model is created and the analysis result is as follows.
First, the model suggested in this study has been confirmed as a suitable model to explain the sustainability factor of the student volunteers. The initially suggested measurement model appears to have proper conformity and all the factorial discretion of observed variables on the latent variable showed statistical significance.
The suitability of measurement model demonstrated proper conformity in the structural modeling analysis after confirming the suitability. Not only the directive affecting elements on volunteers' sustainability, but it also allowed grasping the relative structure between the key latent predictors included in the models and the model appears to have availability which enables to trace the route to reach the volunteers' sustainability.
Second, the participation motivation suggested positive effect on sustainability through satisfaction of volunteers however, there was no sign of directive effect with sustainability.
In other words, it showed an effect of a complete mediation. This signifies the sustainability of volunteers was insignificant in terms of participation motivation nevertheless, the stronger participating motivation had more affect on the sustainability of volunteers and higher satisfactory degree in volunteers. This means the satisfactory degree of volunteer activity were high when the anticipation for the service was fulfilled through the volunteering activity which is connected to the sustainability.
Third, the study was able to learn that human relations could invite direct effect and indirect effect on the sustainability through the satisfactory degree of volunteering service. As a result of an inspection on mediation route significance, the human relations showed the utmost interpretation route that leads to the sustainability as the effect of partial mediation. This indicates that the human relations have the maximum eff ectiveness of the students' volunteering on the sustainability.
Fourth, the management process of volunteering activity showed direct affect on the sustainability without going through the mediating process. This illustrates the positive effect on the sustainability when the management standard for the volunteering department is high and training, guidance, acknowledgement and compensation for students have great satisfactory degree. However, the management process of the volunteering activity does not have the effect on increasing the satisfactory degree of the students in performing volunteering activities. This suggest the management process of volunteering activity doesn't necessary increase the students' satisfactory degree in performing services which calls for the necessary of a management process that would satisfy students in the level of volunteering management process.
Fifth, as a result of observation on the relationship with volunteers sustainabilityby using gender, religion financial condition as a control variable which used as variables on preceding researches as individual traits, gender, religion and financial condition appear not significantly affecting sustainability and the satisfactory degree of volunteers. This reflects a specificity of college students, and as demonstrated in the study result, it enhances anticipation of participating motivation and affirms human relations greater than gender, religion and financial conditions thus; there should be more concerns in increasing the management standard for volunteer activities.
Sixth, the study used a concept of satisfactory degree of volunteers in order to explain systematical sustainability for volunteer service. It enriched interpretation of sustainability in satisfactory degree of volunteers by clarifying the meditative role that affects the sustainability.
The study is significant as it used more advanced analyzing technologies namely the structural equation modeling and that it comprehensively analyzed the affect of sustainability by differentiating volunteer services and the related preceding researches. For practicality matter, the study is also significant as it suggested a theoretical model and an alternative and practical goal that enables to realize the management and guidance for volunteer services appropriate for college students.
