Korean animation industry is deficient in a producing system compare to its drastic development of production system and technology. Consequently, it is regarded that Korean animation industry requires a systematic study of producer’s role and responsibility based on sophisticated and advanced research.
This thesis analyzes a role and responsibility of producing group as a core team of projects and mainly discusses key roles as a creative producer. The process of making creative decisions through every production stage from the development to the delivery based on a reasonable ground is also discussed.
A creative producing is defined as enhancing creative elements of projects in all phases in production with creative decisions. A productive animation practice requires a systematic planning in deliberation of budget and realistic production schedule in consideration of various aspects such as finance, strategy, structure, competent team setting, technology and creativity’s point of view.
The function and task of producers can be extensive and requires versatile capability besides their specialization in animation production. In the meantime, producer should be able to provide a creative working environment and fully support the production team including director. The crucial role of producer among all necessary qualifications is to comprehend every procedure of animation production and to increase the team creativity within the budget allowed, so this will lead to a successful animation to satisfy the needs of audience.
This study mainly analyzes various practical cases of the animation production of Pixar animation studio emphasizing how creative producing has been implemented.
Pixar has developed and accomplished unique and creative concept stories by adding brilliant imagination and sparkling inspiration to universal themes and common motives.
Every project of Pixar has different concept, various characters and unique plots. Their producing process has been progressing for supporting and stimulating creative elements. The results of the creative producing have led their productions to be successful both artistically and commercially, so billions of audience has been entertained internationally.
Ultimately, creative producing is based on the every creator’s continuous effort and enthusiastic participation in projects. Therefore it commences a successful project by providing a creative environment which can enhance the creativity from all of the production crews.
I wish as many exceptional animations can be produced in Korean animation industry by achieving creative producing and providing inspirational environment.

국내 애니메이션 업계는 제작시스템과 메인 프러덕션의 제작 기술적인 발전에 비해 프로듀싱에 대한 시스템과 체계가 현저하게 부족한 현실이며, 프로듀서의 역할과 업무에 대한 보다 체계적이고 구체화된 연구와 근거가 필요하다고 여겨진다.
본고는 프로젝트 핵심 그룹으로서의 프로듀서 그룹의 역할과 업무를 구체적으로 분석하여, 그 중에서도 크리에이티브 프로듀서의 역할과 창의적 결정을 위한 합리적 근거와 과정들에 대해 집중적으로 논하였다.
크리에이티브 프로듀싱은 애니메이션의 개발과 제작의 모든 단계에서 창의적 결정들로 창작 요소들을 강화시켜 가고, 모든 창의적 요소들을 분석하여 비용적, 전략적, 구조 및 팀셋팅에 관련된 체계적인 계획의 수립과 집행을 통해 정해진 시간과 한정된 비용으로 최상의 작품을 제작하는 일련의 과정이라고 할 수 있다.
프로듀서의 업무와 역할은 광범위하고 그에 따른 많은 전문적 지식과 자질 들이 요구되지만, 궁극적으로 감독을 비롯한 전 제작진에게 창의적인 환경을 제공하고 그들을 지지함으로써 그들의 모든 창조적 노력과 창의적 능력 그리고 모든 소요비용이 작품에 표현되어 많은 관객들과 만나게 하는 것이 가장 중요한 크리에이티브 프로듀서의 책임이라고 생각한다.
이러한 크리에이티브 프로듀싱이 실제적인 프로젝트 진행에서 어떻게 적용되는 지에 대한 사례로 픽사 애니메이션 스튜디오의 프로듀싱 요소들을 분석하였다.
픽사는 일상에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 모티브나 아이디어에 빛나는 상상력을 더하여 독창적이고 완성도 높은 스토리로 발전 시켰다.
픽사의 각 프로젝트들은 각기 다른 소재와 다양한 캐릭터, 독특한 스토리구조를 가지고 있고, 픽사의 모든 프로듀싱 과정들은 이러한 창의적 요소들을 뒷받침하고 강화시키는 것을 목표로 진행되었으며, 그러한 크리에이티브 프로듀싱의 결과로 상업성과 예술성을 두루 갖춘 작품으로 관객들에게 큰 즐거움을 주었다.
궁극적으로, 이러한 크리에이티브 프로듀싱은 결국 그 작업을 직접적으로 스크린에 옮겨가는 작업자 개개인의 열정과 작업을 기반으로 하며, 프로젝트에 참여하는 모든 작업자들의 독창성과 창의력을 최대한 끌어낼 수 있는 창의적 환경을 조성해 주는 것에서 비롯된다고 할 수 있다.
앞으로 체계적이고 합리적인 근거를 갖춘 프로듀싱에 대한 다양하고 깊은 논의와 더불어 크리에이티브 프로듀싱과 창의적 환경조성을 통해 예술성과 상업성을 겸비한 우수한 애니메이션이 활발하게 제작될 수 있길 바란다.
