Culture is the whole of knowledge, belief, and behavior of human beings. In sociology, it is traditional matter, and designates philosophy, religion, art, and science as valued products of human beings. Thus, culture has diverse meaning and can be defined as mutual mental legacy of human beings. Traditional culture has individuality and feature of each country and has changed in the stream of periodical environmental changes with various effects. The history of Korea dance has also changed in the tendency of periodical variation adjusting periodical situation. In the mean time, important intangible cultural assets institution is proper to preserve and transmit vanishing traditional culture by modernization.
This study is not focused on preservation and transmission of traditional dance for important intangible cultural assets, but focused on revitalization scheme of traditional dance through the analysis of populace’s culture enjoyment recognition. The scope of this study is restricted as 7 traditional dances (Jinjugummu, Seungjunmu, Seungmu, Chuyoungmu, Hakyoenhwadaehapseulmu, Taepyungmu, Salpulichum), important intangible cultural assets, among traditional dances. Through this study, documentary study and positive study were executed to research selection capacity for taste formation and performance of culture enjoyer, selection of user about a field of traditional arts and cultural enjoyment of users about 7traditional dances important intangible cultural assets.
First of all, in journal and data research, the present condition of important intangible cultural assets and performance analysis about 7 traditional dances was operated. According to the results of the research, the rate of the performance that accept a field of dance important intangible cultural assets with a national performance support policy appears highly 52.4%, 2006. The rate of performance activity in the area of dance important intangible cultural assets was high, Gyeongsangnam-do 42.9%, Seoul 24% and it was revealed that a group item was more active than a personal item according to the research that the most active performance activity was Jinjugummu and Seungjunmu both 2005 and 2006.
Secondly, 3 hypothesis were established and empirical research was performed to study recognition about culture user’s selection capacity among 7 traditional dances important intangible cultural assets, core of this thesis. The target of the research was not dance majors, but 260 non-dance majors. Method of the study was "Self Administration Method"and SPSS 15.0, a statistics package program, was applied to collect the records directly. The hypotheses of the study are provided below.
<Hypothesis 1>
In 7 traditional dances, important intangible cultural assets, the difference of understanding about Salpulichum and Seungmu, solo performance, would be higher than group performance by demographic variable factor of non-dance major.
<Hypothesis 2>
Participation rate about dance performance, important intangible cultural assets, would be proportional to sex distinction of non-dance major. (The frequency of performance participation of female would be higher than that of male)
<Hypothesis 3>
According to the demographic variable, cultural user would recognize that important intangible cultural assets dance performance is more aesthetic than usual traditional dance.)
According to the results of the empirical research, the reaction of respondent’s recognition, answer 'average' (37.7%) for the proportion of the individual question about Salpulichum and Seungmu has higher percentage result than answer 'average' (13.0%) for the rest. In 7 traditional dances of important intangible cultural assets, the woman potential audience percentage rate is positive statistical result 0.047 below than significance level 0.05. Respondent’s recognition of artistic value about Hypothesis 3 shows the unique result that the dance performance of important intangible cultural assets and usual traditional dance has the same percentage (57.1%), in order of important intangible cultural assets (36.7%) and usual traditional dance (6.3%).
Through the research, it is difficult to expect the positive result immediately of the user’s concern, because most of respondent’s recognition about 7 dances important intangible cultural assets performance has low percentage of understanding the traditional dance performance. Therefore, in the long term, positive result can be expected by using traditional dance performance planning matching modern society by accurate understanding about cultural user’s intent through market segmentation for the activation of traditional dance.
