There is no similar color or shape for local image in Korea. Specially, though apartments have great deal of weight, the planning does not consider local characteristics and circumstances around. Construction companies use colors for just emphasizing their brand which is big element that damages local identity. Though there is deliberation for compatibility in case of buildings that is over some regular scale, there is no master plan of colors for city image that should be standard for the architectures of city, region, and nation. So, the purpose of this study is to develop 'color control system' that can develop differentiated colors suitable for local identity, maintain and manage continuously to give local identity.
In this study, literatures, papers, and thesis were researched for theoretical backgrounds. In chapter 2, the importance of colors was researched by inquiring theory of color's role, function to give local identity. In chapter 3, color table was developed that can be applied to "Adjective Image Scale" of IRI to develop local colors that is correspondent to local symbolic ideology. In chapter 4, Human sensitive vocabulary was studied. In chapter 5, color grade was prepared with limited elements of colors. And harmony with environment around was established. Limited elements of colors for architectures were organized to make control standard for color planning. In chapter 6, 5 regions were selected for researching local symbolic image and 'color image vocabulary scale' was applied to develop local color by comparing with other regions. And for continuous maintenance after development, 'color control system' was developed. And to verify this study, survey was carried out to local citizens about satisfaction by computer simulation.
As the result of this study, first, the color table developed for combination with 'adjective image scale' of IRI would be useful for related survey or local color analysis. So to speak, It became possible to select in various color table beyond the limitation of choice. It became easy to compare colors by consolidating separate color tables of each color, brightness, and chroma. Second, local symbolic image can be applied to 'color image vocabulary scale' developed in this study to select color. And there can be local distinction by understanding color's location. Third, Colors for architectures can be applied with limited elements to make range of brightness or chroma of main colors to make use in planning colors of the architectures. Fourth, 'color control system' was developed to make it easy to maintain continuously with permissible range to apply reconstruction or new construction afterwards. Fifth, Citizens of local areas participated in verification of this study were highly satisfied with changed colors. And they felt almost same adjective vocabularies after they saw the changed pictures with adjective of local symbolic image.
