The purpose of this study was to investigate the level and correlation of the environmental awareness and pro-environmental behaviors of elementary school students.
The objects of this study were 282 elementary school students selected from elementary school located in Dong Jack-Gu, Seoul. The used questionaries for students were made by myself in reference to the pre-studies. The collected data was statistically processed and analyzed by mean frequency, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson correlation of the SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows;
First, the average score of elementary school students' environmental awareness was 4.21 on the scale of 1-5 and theirs pro-environmental behaviors was 3.63 on the scale of 1-5. In the parts of environmental awareness, it is found that 'environmental pollution' is the highest and then followed by 'water resources protection', 'the conservation of nature', 'energy saving', 'the general of environmental problem', 'recycling'. In the parts of pro-environmental behaviors, it is found that 'energy saving' was the highest and then followed by 'water resources protection', 'the conservation of nature', 'recycling', 'environmental pollution', 'the general of environmental problem'.
Second, Girls were higher than boys in subscale of environmental awareness and pro-environmental behaviors. The 5th graders were higher than the 3rd graders in subscale of environmental awareness and in pro-environmental behaviors the 3rd graders were higher than the 5th graders.
Third, In the Pearson's score of elementary school students 'environmental awareness' and 'pro-environmental behaviors', the 3rd graders were higher than 5th graders in 'environmental pollution'(.58), 'the conservation of nature'(.45), 'energy saving'(.55), 'recycling'(.51).
Fourth, In the Pearson's score of the 3rd graders were higher than the 5th graders in 'the general of environmental problem', 'environmental pollution', 'the conservation of nature', 'energy saving', 'recycling', 'water resources protection'. Also the results of Simple Regression Analysis 3rd graders were higher than the 5th graders.
