The purpose of this research is to grope for practical application plans of new sports and get basic materials for education to help cultivate elementary school children's adaptibility to the school and society from new sports through investigating the effect of new sports on aggression reduction and sociality of elementary school children.
For the purpose, we chose 67 children of N elementary school in Seoul for the research subjects. We provided the experimental group with lessons to which applying new sports and the comparative group with lessons presented in the general course of education respectively for 9 weeks. The conclusion from the result of the tests for equality of parameters for aggression and sociality of the two groups using self-administration method and calculating, comparing, and analyzing the statistical data from the pre-post tests was followings:
First, the result showed the significant change of aggression reduction and sociality development in the experimental group provided the experimental group with lessons to which applying new sports while there was no significant change in the comparative group. Thus, we could confirm that the new sports has positive influence on aggression reduction and sociality of children.
Second, in aggression subareas, we could find significant difference in physical aggression, excitability, and indirect aggression but no significant difference in linguistic aggression and negativity. In the sociality subareas, the significant difference was shown in diligence, law-abiding spirit, manners, the autonomy, the sociability, and acceptability. But there was no significant difference in leadership and stability.
In conclusion, this research indicates that applying new sports to physical education is more effective, considering the effect of reduced Aggression and enhanced Sociality in the experimental group which have game lessons applying new sports.
We suggest the direction for the future research to be performed continuously based on the finding from this research as follows :
First, various new sports activities should be introduced as a part of teaching curriculum to reduce aggression and enhance sociality and step-by-step activity programs is required to be developed to be applied in school.
Second, in this research, we examined the effect of new sports on Aggression Reduction and Sociality development and the changes observed in the subareas but we didn't identify on which subarea each new sports event has influence. Therefore, it is needed to present detailed and subdivided data by identifying the influence of each new sports event on each subarea respectively.
