This study tries to contribute as a basic research to the expansion of academic understanding on developmental condition that can support children's desirable growth by examining on what influences maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes and young children self-control have on their social-friendly behavior. The research questions are as follows:
1. What are the tendencies of maternal parental intelligence, parental fostering attitudes, young children self-control and their social-friendly behavior like respectively?
2. What are the differences in young children self-control and their social-friendly behavior respectively by maternal parental intelligence?
3. What are the difference in young children self-control and their social-friendly behavior respectively by maternal fostering attitudes?
4. What are the relational influences of maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes and young children self-control on young children's social-friendly behavior?
The subjects of this research were 280 children of 3~5 year-old and their mothers in four places of kindergartens and kids houses located in K city, Gyeonggi-Do.
As measuring tool for mothers' parental intelligence, modified and supplemented parental intelligence scale that Hyeon, Mi-Suk(2004) produced was used and as measuring tool for mothers' fostering attitudes, modified and supplemented one that Lee, Won-Young(1983) adapted was used. As measuring tool for young children self-control, Choi, Ji-Hyun(2000)'s adaptation of Self-Control Rating Scale developed to rate young children self-control was used, and as measuring tool for young children's social-friendly behavior, social-friendly behavior rating scale that Kim, Young-Ok(2003) developed was used.
The major results of this study are as follows:
1. Regarding the tendencies of maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes, young children self-control and social-friendly behavior, the response rate on maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes and young children's social-friendly behavior was over average rate and that on young children self-control was shown over average but a little lower rate compared to other variables. In the differences among maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes, young children self-control and social-friendly behavior by the monthly income of household, only parental intelligence showed significant difference. The difference of each factor by young children's sex was not significant, and the higher young children's age is, the higher their social-friendly behavior becomes.
2. in the result of analysis of differences in young children self-control and social-friendly behavior by maternal parental intelligence, maternal parental intelligence turned out to influence significantly young children's social-friendly behavior. Especially, the higher the nurturing role and management role of parental intelligence is, the higher young children's social-friendly behavior becomes.
3. As a result of analysis of the differences in young children self-control and social-friendly behavior by mother's fostering attitudes, mother's fostering attitudes turned out to cause a significant difference in young children self-control. Especially, it can be said that the higher autonomic attitude and controlling attitude among fostering attitudes are, the higher young children self-control becomes. In addition, mother's fostering attitudes turned out to cause a significant difference in young children's social-friendly behavior. It turned out that the higher rejecting attitude and controlling attitude among fostering attitudes are, the higher young children's social-friendly behavior becomes.
4. Maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes and young children self-control turned out to influence young children's social-friendly behavior. Among them, the controling of young children self-control had the greatest explanatory power about young children's social-friendly behavior and followed by the order of the impulsiveness of self-controlling power, autonomic attitude, affectionate attitude and controlling attitude among fostering attitudes, and management role parental intelligence had shown explanatory power.
In sum, as a result of the study, the maternal parental intelligence, fostering attitudes, and young children self-control, all are significant factors for the development of young children's social-friendly behavior and since among them, young children self-control was proven to have the greatest influence on the development of young children's social-friendly behavior, mothers should help young children develop controlling power according to situations and contexts in fostering their children.
