탐구중심 환경교육이 초등학교 환경교육에서 갖는 함의 = The meaning of inquiry-based environment education in elementary environment education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 탐구중심 환경교육이 가지는 가치에 주목하고, 탐구중심 환경교육이 초등 환경교육에서 가지는 의미 탐색을 통해 탐구중심 환경교육의 관점에서 초등 환경교육의 발전 방향을 모색하였다.
탐구중심 환경교육 이론은 교육의 근본과 본질에 충실하고, 전인적 인간 형성의 기초를 제공해 주며, 개정교육과정에 그 내용이 충분히 반영되었을 뿐 아니라 지속가능발전교육에 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 가치가 있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 초등교육을 상징하는 기초교육이라는 측면과 제7차 초등교육과정의 '일상생활에 필요한 기초 능력과 기본생활습관 형성' 이라는 목표 진술과 연관성을 가지고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 탐구중심 환경교육은 초등 환경교육에서 다음과 같은 함의를 가지고 있다.
첫째, 탐구중심 환경교육은 초등교육의 정체성과 본질에 대한 접근을 가능케 해준다.
둘째, 탐구중심 환경교육은 정의적 영역을 강조하는 초등 환경교육에서 지적 영역에 대한 새로운 이해를 요구한다.
셋째, 탐구중심 환경교육은 지속가능성 측면에서 초등 환경교육에 주는 의미가 특별하다.
넷째, 탐구중심 환경교육은 초등 환경교육에서 특히 강조하는 실천에 대한 의미를 재해석을 할 수 있게 해준다.
다섯째, 탐구중심 환경교육은 초등학생에게 공부의 자세와 의의를 깨닫게 해준다.
본 연구를 통해 탐구중심 환경교육의 가치를 바르게 해석하고 초등 환경교육과의 연관성 및 그 함의를 밝힘으로써 초등 환경교육의 본질과 정체성, 고유성, 중등교육과의 차별성 등을 보다 분명히 인식할 수 있었으며, 지속가능한 미래를 위한 초등 환경교육의 새로운 관점과 방향 모색할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Taking note of the value of inquiry?based environment education, the present study purposed to explain the meaning of inquiry?based environment education in elementary environment education and to suggest directions for the development of elementary environment education from the viewpoint of inquiry?based environment education.
The value of inquiry?based environment education is found in that it provides the base for the development of whole personality, that its contents have been reflected sufficiently in the revised national curriculum, and that it can contribute to education on sustainable development. In addition, as elementary education, inquiry?based environment education is connected to “Formation of basic abilities and life habits required in daily life,” one of the goals of the 7th National Elementary Curriculum. From this point of view, inquiry?based environment education has implications for elementary environment education as follows.
First, inquiry?based environment education enables approaches to the identity and essential nature of elementary education.
Second, inquiry?based environment education demands new understanding of the intellectual area in elementary environment education that emphasizes the affective area.
Third, inquiry?based environment education has a special meaning for elementary environment education in the aspect of sustainability.
Fourth, inquiry?based environment education enables the reinterpretation of practice, which is particularly emphasized in elementary environment education.
Fifth, inquiry?based environment education helps elementary students learn the attitude and meaning of study.
Through this study, the value of inquiry?based environment education was interpreted and its connection to and implications for elementary environment education were explained, and consequently the essential nature, identity and uniqueness of elementary environment education and its differences from secondary education were clarified. Furthermore, this study suggested new viewpoints and directions for elementary environment education aiming at the sustainable future.
