Humans have respected the nature, and accept themselves as small nature within the enormous nature and lived in harmony with it. But today's humans have been reconstructing the nature in order to fulfill their desire. Also with many artificial materials from developed science, nature can no longer fulfill the desire of humans and is not worthy of being respected; therefore its worthiness is being faded away. In this situation, natural environment is being more destructed, and human senses are becoming even more dimmed. Due to this, the usage of artificial art materials is being more used. Today's advent of environment art, ecology art and other trend of art acknowledges this type of problem, and tries to pursuit the whole development in art education through environment experience with the nature, and expressing activities. This research looks into the usage of expressing art material in getting closer to the nature in the education of art. Therefore it acknowledges the problem of expressing art material which are being used in current art education, and will find natural material's characteristic and value which will reinforce the problem. With this as base, the research's focus is to create method of expressing, using the natural material in the elementary art subject. The researched content is as follows.
First, by observing the change of art materials used by artists, land art and natural art has been examined in which nature created new relationship between art and expressing material.
Second, by acknowledging the problem of material usage in today's art education site, one of the resolutions which are to use natural material as expressing material has been examined. Moreover natural object's characteristic of being the expressing material has been looked into, and the limit and possibility of expressing art using natural materials and the educational meaning has been discussed.
Third, the usage of natural materials in current educational process of grade 3, 4, 5, and 6 has been analyzed. As many problems became visible according to the result, new teaching methods were presented.
Fourth, the presented teaching method through the observation as stated above regarding the meaning of expressing art using the natural materials and educational process as base, arrangement of art education plan using the natural material was done. This new content is made up of three sections, which are <reincarnation of natural material>, <finding the color of nature>, and <outside art activities along with the nature>. With this as base, the teacher's learning guidance plan has been carried out to 32 students in 4thgrade, and the lesson result has been analyzed.
As the result of teacher's learning guidance plan, firstly we observed that student's expressing desire has been very inspired. As students freely found and used the natural materials instead of using the standardized materials, those students who were unwilling to participate in expressing activities and did not prepare the materials well, got involved in the activities willingly and showed positive attitude towards the activity. Also we figured that because the materials are picked up from the nature it lessens the economical burden on the student's family, and the nature is able to recycle with out a hassle. Also due to nature's one and only form and colors, child's imitation in the final product has decreased magnificently, and variety of final product was created due to innovative concept according to the prepared materials by the students. Also, while gathering materials students acknowledged the time flows and season changing naturally. Through this, students learned the beauty the nature has, and had an opportunity to learn the value of nature while coexisting with it.
In the future, there needs to be more development of multi sided learning program which uses natural materials to express, and school environment reformation. Also there needs to be more development of variety of natural experiencing art program during learning out side the school building.
