What unifying element there is in Buddhism, Mahāyānā and Mahāyānā, is provided by the monks and their adherence to the monastic rule. In the centuries after the death of the Buddha there arose a number of schools, often with their own Vinayas, or monastic codes. These do differ, and their differences indicate past schism and form fruitful fields of minute comparison for modern scholars. The Theravāda tradition leads us to believe that the schism occurred over a number of points of discipline in which the monks who were later to become the Mahāsamghikas were relaxing the Vinaya rules. For example, Theravāda monks in Sri Lanka are forbidden to handle money. They were accused of handling money donated by laymen, which may reflect an adaptation of the Vinaya to the growing town-based mercantile economy of North India. Asoka himself advised monks on their reading matter and, according to tradition, purified the monastic order by expelling erring monks. As we have seen, when the increasing both the Buddhist order and extensive lay patronage, so some of problem which is relative forbidden to handle property was occurred. Therefore the kapiya-kāraka system was made by the Buddhist tradition and it has become more important. A study on the kapiya-kāraka however, has been little studied, and we cannot find a report of kappa in the Buddhist Studies. For that reason, this treatise is intended as an introduction to the ideas of kapiya-kāraka and also to some of the recent scholarly work in the field. For there seems to be a need for such treatise, and I think that the role of kapiya-kāraka should reveal in the Buddhist order. In this treatise I have the purpose in trying doing clear understanding about the both concept and role of kapiya-kāraka in Buddhism because its role is invaluable since the kapiya-kāraka was made by the Buddhist sangha.
This treatise will examine kappa dharma by the Vinaya Because the first purpose is clear understanding of kappa. I will observe the kapiya-kāraka who works as employ of the Buddhist order by the translation Chinese Canon because Buddhist monk has forbidden handling money as a precept. My main texts are Caturvarga Vinaya Mahisasaka Nikaya, pancavarga Vinaya, Dasadhyaya Vinaya, and kapiya-kāraka.
Chapter 1 will deal a purpose, an extent, a method of study and a study on the precedence. Chapter 2 will deal both the meaning and variety of kappa dharma and illustrate the monastic life. Chapter 3 will analyze the capability of kapiya-kāraka. Chapter 5 will examine both Five dharma of Devadatta and the ten allowances of Vaiśāl which has become main debate in the early Buddhism. Chapter 5 Finally, I will deal of the poind kappa dharma and kapiya-kāraka modern mean.
In this paper, I have examine the meaning of kapiya-kāraka but to explain exactly meaning and role of kapiya-kāraka is very difficult to me in modern Buddhist society. Lately, I will find new model kapiya-kāraka in my study.
