According to the report of「Employment tendency for the disabled in the first half of 2007」that was surveyed by KEPAD(Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled), the disabled people, who are living together in the contemporary era are not only low in employment rate and but also biased to manufacturing given converting into the adulthood, thus the job category in business was indicated to fail to be diverse. Furthermore, according to「Survey of the actual condition for the disabled in 2005」by the Ministry of Health & Welfare, the employment rate in individuals with developmental disabilities(autistic) was 27.32%, thereby having been the lowest numerical value when comparing with other disability spheres. And, the job category, in which they are employed and working, was indicated to be mostly the simple labor job in manufacturing. Even as for the educational program aiming to allow the individuals with autistic disorder to be possibly converted into independent adults before graduation, the major curriculum is being installed only at two places among 7 Emotional Growth Schools nationwide. And, it is also limited to manufacturing, thereby being able to be seen that the employment structure is very inferior as for individuals with autistic disorder.
Accordingly, this study has an intention of looking at the job rehabilitation for the disabled, and the job rehabilitation for the individuals with autistic disorder in the aspect of strong point, interest, and aptitude that are possessed by them, not a limitation in job ability. And, escaping from the simple labor job that possesses the majority of the job types in individuals with autistic disorder, as a significance of seeking for a job proper for their needs and strong points, it inquired into the available part and the part, to which will need to be applied, given performing the assistant office-work job at the general office-work field.
The results of performing the assistant office-work job in adults with autistic disorder for this study were tried to be divided into duty-performance aspect, social-skill aspect, communication aspect, and daily and independent life aspect according to the research objective.
First, in the duty-performance aspect, the high obedience to job direction in the subject enabled several tasks(document filing, copy, arrangement, and tea service) within office. And, the use of job schedule led to enabling independent performance without depending on employees, thereby having reduced intensity of management and supervision. The interest in job of the subject also allowed the subject to increase possibility of performing the assistant office-work job. However, flexibility, which can adjust to a new change, drops, thereby having been shown the necessity of supporting this.
Second, in the social-skill aspect, the high sociality in the subject made the friendly relationship with employees, and formed integration, thereby having increased possibility of performing the assistant office-work job.
Third, in the communication aspect, employees' understanding about the unique communication expressive method in the subject as well as the qualitatively-changed communication skill reduced difficulty in mutual communication, thereby having increased possibility of performing the assistant office-work job.
Fourth, in the daily and independent life aspect, the subject oneself is excellent in an effort to control and in individual hygiene management, and can read and write the basically daily writing such as reading and word recognition for word typing, thereby having increased possibility of performing the assistant office-work job. However, in the duty-performance aspect, the adjustment to a new change drops a little, thereby having been indicated to be needed the support.
In all the aspects of duty performance, social skill, communication, and daily and independent life, the subject was enhanced reciprocality, and came to have independent ability, thus the conclusion can be summarized that the subject in the adult with autistic disorder can perform assistant office-work job as the employment member who contributes to society.
As the above, this study examined possibility of performing the assistant office-work job in the individual with autistic disorder. Many individuals with autistic disorder have a special strength and interest, thereby being important to seek for job category that can create this interest and ability, not allowing them to be in line with a job. And, the employment in diverse job categories can be said to be needed, which maximally takes advantage of a strong point and interest that is possessed by each individual, with avoiding a job that highlights their demerits.
