Current society has been continuously changed. There has been uncertain about the origin of the change but it has been accelerated corresponding to various historical events. The events includes a discovery of coral energy, a development of industrialization, a supply of personal automobiles, an introduction of television and its commercial advertisements, a development of the internet to link the whole world and its ripple effects and the ubiquitous. Such various social phenomenon and development of the technology play a role of a detonator of the huge social stream. Consequencely, these various change factors do not lead a local change but a global change which covers all around the world. They result in events of our entire society.
For instance, in consideration of a collapse of general traditional market, a prosperity of big department store, an increase of internet shopping, and mega-shopping malls with multiplex, a space and behaviours of consumption have been altered and developed according to the social stream.
We live in an endless flood of the consumption. In particular, since the era of industrialization, our lives have been surrounded by commercial territories, becoming no less of "life = consumption". It becomes clear that the changed consumption pattern gives an influence on various social changes such as cultural life.
After ten years since the internet was introduced to the public, cyber shopping has been very popular. However, the shopping mall on the computer screen is a secondary image not a real one. Hence, the conventional shopping mall would be kept as long as ‘Hear_Me_See_Me_Web’ has been developed into ‘Touch_Me_Feel_Me Web’
The shopping is not defined as one of the consumption only. It is not necessary to have products all the time. But what is the reason that people are just wandering in the shopping, appreciating high-end designsand updating brand-new products? What is the reason that people are excited at staying in a shopping space, rather than residential or working spaces? What is the reason people are excited at spending time in a dark underground space of COEX, Myeodong streets, and Roponggi hill in Japan? They would experience the space by using five human senses which the Internet shopping cannot provide.
This study is to show how to express these rapidly changeable social aspects, and consumer’s changed pattern in a physical architectural environment, and to suggest an alternative design option to connect advantages from the online malls to the offline markets. I believe that this study would be a factor to enhance the various images comprising the city and a clue to construct a new commercial space.
