The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of traditional culture education activities using picture books on young children's formation of national identity. The concrete research matters established for the purpose of this study are as follows.

This study targeted the young children aged 5 in the two classes of S-Kindergarten located in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The children of the study object totals 36, with 18 persons in an experiment group(boys : 7, girls : 11), and with 18 persons in a control group(Boys : 8, girls : 10).
For the pupils of the experiment group, this researcher programmed an integral activity using the picture books in consideration of the young children's development characteristic and directly executed the program for 8 weeks from September 3, 2007 to October 26, 2007, whereas for the control group the homeroom teacher carried out the class activities with the project activity planned. The study procedures proceeded in the order from a pretest, next the traditional culture education using picture books for 8 weeks, then an after-test.
The testing tool we used in this study for the pretest ?post-test was the national identity testing tool Jeon Kyung Hwa(2002) constructed to be fitted for the young children's level. In order to study is to find out the effects of traditional culture education activities using picture books on young children's formation of national identity, we executed a post-test with the same method as a pretest, and performed t-test to verify whether the level of the national identity of young children in the experiment group is the same as that of young children in the control group by means of using SPSS 12.0 statistics program with collected test results, and practiced the analysis of convariate(ANCOVA) to check the purpose of this study, there are, What the effects of traditional culture education activities using picture books on young children's formation of national identity.
We can sum up the results of this study as follows.
First, when we experienced the activity of the traditional cultural education using picture books and analyzed the results both in advance and after the fact, it was shown that the experimental group was more meaningful than the control group statistically.
Second, after the education of traditional culture using picture books, it was known that there was some difference between the young children of the experiment group and the young children of the control group all in the recognition, preference and reason of preference of the young children regarding the subordinate factors of their national identity.
Third, the activity of traditional culture education through picture books is an interesting activity.
Therefore, varied educational activities of traditional culture shall have to be developed in future much more with the foundation of the literary approach so as to give rise to interest to the children through the traditional culture education in the site of young children's education and be applied easily to the teachers or young children.
