애니메이션 서사구조와 장면구성 연구 : 월트 디즈니 애니메이션을 중심으로 = (A) study on the narration structure and scene composition in animation : centering the animation of Walt Disney

The purpose of the article was to acknowledge influence of Walt Disney’s works to us and identify the cause of the influence in view of analysis. A methodology of narration structure and scene composition were suggested to analyze the structure. To make the result clear, space formation method was limited to 2D animation. In light of content, Mulan, Beauty And The Beast and Pocahontas that belong to a similar genre were selected. The findings from the foregoing were as follows.
Firstly, presented diagram process helped to understand the process to make a norm of Walt Disney. In Mulan, it went with E) complication of the event, D) hero’s goal setting and reaction of emotion, C) commencement of the event, A) introduction of characters and places, B) aspects of the event, F) result and G) normative of the result. In Beauty And The Beast, it went with D) hero’s goal setting and reaction of emotion, C) commencement of the event, E) complication of the event, B) aspects of the event, A) introduction of characters and places, F) result, G) reaction to the result and Belle’s mental state falling in love with the beast when relationship is set out, and D) hero’s goal setting and normative of emotion. In Pocahontas, it went with B) aspects of the event, D) hero’s goal setting and reaction of emotion, E) complication of the event, A) introduction of characters and places, C) commencement of the event, F) result, and G) system of controlling forms to support narrative structure in a normative frame of the result. Making a typical genre with the common thing in the tree works can be found in the same respect. As they created mutual effect enough within a narrative structure and such a type of narrative structure formed a unique strategy, it was necessary to pay attention in view of ‘narrative structure strategy’ by way of diagrams.
Secondly, Mulan highlighted E) complication of the event and feminism, Beauty And The Beast highlighted D) dualism by hero’s goal setting, and Pocahontas highlighted the ideology of invasion by aspects of the event.
As for the features of scene composition, short includes not only composition method of frame that is a frame of screen to divide the world of animation movie but also other components. In view of a critical component to decide content of a narrative work, a certain animation movie can be created by composition of shorts as a totally different, new movie from purpose of the movie, no matter what story the animation movie came from. To catch viewer’s eyes with different scene arrangement of a narrative movie, dynamic timing and rhythm in Disney’s traditional narrative sequence could be found with a feature to proceed to strengthen reasonable, de-structural communication in light of mutual complementary timing of narrative strategy. By availing aesthetic transformation relying on symbolic system of reasonable communication language and relying on expression form with mutual intervention, interpretation can be open, very polysemous and easy for viewer to participate.
Thirdly, with tripartite relations by a medium of Gwitori, Moussieur, and ancestor god in Mulan stove, closet, kettle, cup board, holder, alarm clock, candle and dust broom in Beauty And The Beast; and Beolsae, Nico, Pussy, an old lady Willow in Pocahontas, it became possible of a meeting by a reality and an imaginary world, which turned out to emphasize reality even with a mystique available of fairy room. Such a medium could give an event directly to a hero and a viewer by way of causal relationship, time and place of a narrative. Watchers can imagine not only the events from scene composition but also the ones out of scene and can furthermore think beyond the story.
Fourthly, the reason to make a common, typical frame for movies could be found in the strategy of Walt Disney Studio. Narrative structure and scene composition, e.g. strong and weak timely arrangement by diagramming, number of use of scene composition, tripartite relationship of media, and matrix with divisional component and integral body, have a feature to proceed to strengthen reasonable communication for the purpose of industrial portfolio. Reasonable communication is not bound by a certain rule so interpretation can be polysemous and easy for receivers to participate.
Therefore, as a result of the findings of the study, narrative structure and scene composition of Disney animation is basically the outcome from the characteristics of being self-generative, independent and expandable of a meaning to an unlimited extent within the integral body as a space benchmark to directly influence a movie.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고의 목적으로 월트 디즈니의 작품이 우리에게 미치는 영향력을 인정하고, 그 원인을 분석의 관점에서 밝혀보았다.
이에, 분석을 위한 방법론을 제시하고 그 결과를 명확하게 하기 위하여 공간구성 방법을 2D애니메이션으로 제한하였다. 작품에 따른 내용의 측면에서는 장르 설정이 비교적 비슷한 <뮬란>, <미녀와 야수>, <포카혼타스>로 선정하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻게 되었다.
첫째, 제시된 도식화의 과정을 통하여 월트 디즈니의 규범화 과정을 알 수 있었다. <뮬란>에서, 마) 사건의 복잡화, 라) 주인공의 목표 설정과 감정의 반응, 다) 사건의 시작, 가) 등장인물들과 장소의 소개, 나) 사건의 양상, 바) 결과, 사) 결과에 대한 반응의 규범화이고, <미녀와 야수>에서 라) 주인공의 목표 설정과 감정의 반응, 다) 사건의 시작, 마) 사건의 복잡화, 나) 사건의 양상, 가) 등장인물들과 장소의 소개, 바) 결과, 사) 결과에 대한 반응으로 규범화이다. 그리고 <포카혼타스>에서도, 나) 사건의 양상, 라) 주인공의 목표 설정과 감정의 반응, 마) 사건의 복잡화, 가) 등장인물들과 장소의 소개, 다) 사건의 시작, 바) 결과, 사) 결과에 대한 반응의 순으로 나타났다. 이것은 규범화에 대한 서사구조를 지지하는 지배적인 형식들을 체계화시킨다. 이 작품들이 공통점으로 정형화된 장르를 만드는 것도 그와 같은 맥락에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 물론 그것들이 서사구조 내에서 상호효과를 충분히 거두고 있으며, 그러한 서사구조 형태가 하나의 독특한 전략을 형성함에 따라 이것을 도식화를 이용한 ‘서사구조전략’이라는 관점에서 주목할 필요가 있다.
둘째, <뮬란>에서, 마)의 사건의 복잡화를 통한 여성성을 강조하고, <미녀와 야수>에서 라)의 주인공의 목표 설정에 따른 이중성을 주제로 강조하였다. 그리고 <포카혼타스>에서, 나)의 사건의 양상에 따른 침략의 이데올로기를 강조하였다.
장면구성의 특성으로 쇼트는 애니메이션영화의 세계를 구분 짓는 화면의 틀 즉, 프레임을 구성하는 방식과 기타 요소를 포괄하는데, 이것은 서사물의 내용을 결정하는 주요 인자라는 관점에서 한 편의 애니메이션이 어떤 이야기를 바탕으로 만들어졌다 해도 그 애니메이션은 쇼트 구성에 따라 작품의도와는 전혀 다른 새로운 작품으로 탄생하게 될 수 있는 것이다. 장면 구성에 있어 서사물의 또 다른 배열로 향유자의 시선을 끌기 위한 서사전략의 상호보완에 대한 시간 관계로, 디즈니의 고전적 서사 진행은 강약에 따른 시퀀스와 쇼트 배열로 리듬을 통하여 합리적인 탈 구조적 커뮤니케이션을 강화하는 방향으로 진행된다는 점에서 특징을 발견할 수 있었다.
셋째, <뮬란>은 귀똘이, 무슈, 조상신을, <미녀와 야수>에서 스토브, 옷장, 주전자, 찻잔, 받침대, 자명종, 초, 먼지털이를, <포카혼타스>에서는 벌새, 니코, 퍼시, 버드나무 할머니라는 매개를 통한 삼자관계 설정으로 현실적인 것과 상상의 세계가 만나는 곳, 이른바 동화적 장소가 가능한 것들을 가지면서 사실성을 강조하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 매개는 주인공과 향유자에게 직접적으로 사건을 제시하게 되는데, 이것은 서사와 관련되어 사건의 인과 관계를 시간과 공간을 통하여 나타날 수 있다. 즉, 장면구성 속에 나타나는 사건과 별도로 나타나지 않은 사건들에 대해서도 짐작할 수 있고 이야기영역 밖에 있는 것까지 향유자들은 생각할 수 있게 하는 것이다.
넷째, 작품들이 공통적이고 정형화된 틀을 만드는 이유를 월트 디즈니 스튜디오의 전략적 맥락에서 찾아볼 수 있었다. 이것은 서사구조와 장면구성에서 도식화 과정을 통한 강약에 따른 시간의 배열과 장면구성의 사용 횟수, 매개의 삼자 관계, 계열적 요소와 통합체 내의 그물망 등은 산업적 포트폴리오화를 위한 향유자와의 소통을 강화하는 방향으로 진행된다는 점에서 특징을 갖는다.
따라서 이러한 연구 결과 디즈니 애니메이션의 서사구조와 장면구성은 근본적으로 작품에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 공간적 기표로 그 자체들이 자생적이고 독립적이면서 통합체 내에서 그 의미를 무한히 확장할 수 있는 힘을 가지고 있다는 것이 특징이다.
