    The purpose of this study was to suggest the effective career guidance in the education process after analyzing the status of the career education for the elementary 5th and 6th graders. To fulfill the purpose, the following questions were asked.
    First, how is the status of course guidance through the practical arts and the career guidance for the elementary 5th and 6th graders ?
    Second, what is the direction of the effective career guidance in the elementary practical career subject ?
    Accordingly, the questionnaires answered by the elementary 5th or 6th grade teachers about knowledge and method about the career education, interrelationship between the practical arts and the career education and the actual status of the career guidance all over Korea were analyzed, The results were as followings.
    First, most teachers recognized that the elementary students had less and no cognition toward the career. Regarding the priority of the career education that the teacher should teach the elementary students, the cognition toward the career through interrelationship between aptitude and occupation was the most important factor.
    Second, a number of teachers were aware in the 7th practical arts curriculum that the quantity of the subject matter units including the career guidance related factors and material was not insufficient.
    Third, the practical arts laboratory was necessary to maximize the effect of the career guidance through the practical arts and reinforcing the career related experimental study was necessary to raise the effect of the career education for the elementary students.
    As a result, in order to effectively perform the career education for the elementary students through the practical arts, the schools should provide its condition and environment to maximize the career education through establishing the practical arts laboratory, conducting teacher system responsible for the practical career subject, a implementing a variety of the career guidance materials and the practical arts.
