This thesis tries to analyse the certification role of venture capitalists in the KOSDAQ IPO market. It is debated that the venture capitalists could reduce the information asymmetry between investors and issuing firm.In our empirical study, regression analyses and difference tests are conducted by utilizing 257 firms which were backed by venture capitalists and were listed on KOSDAQ from January 2000 to December 2002. In order to explore the certification role of venture capitalist, we classify the sample into two groups : venture capital-backed venture companies and non-venture capital-backed venture companies. And we examines the short- and long run return of companies with IPO stock prices, based on CAR, BHAR, WR.The study showed that venture capital-backed firms attained lower short-run returns in comparison to non-venture capital-backed firms. While venture capital-backed firms attained higher long-run returns in comparison to non-venture capital-backed firms. This mean that the venture capitalist would play a role in supervision and management support over their backed-firms in the short term but not in the long run.And IPO of KTB with the 'more reputational venture capital firm' backed-firms attained lower long-run returns in comparison to non-venture capital-backed firms. This means that the more reputational venture capitalist would not play a role in supervision and management support over their backed-firms.In conclusion, venture capitalist, reputational venture capitalist in KOSDAQ after IPO doesn't perform the role of the third party guarantee in the market.
