The purpose of this study was to measure the level of the identity of the personnels who were playing important roles in their philanthropic activities, and thereby, analyze the factors affecting such identity and the casual relations among the sub-variables of the professional identity. For this purpose, the researcher sampled the personnels engaged in the philanthropic activities and thereupon, conducted a questionnaire survey for perceptions about their professional identity. A total of 123 personnels responded to the survey. The results of this study can be summarized as follows;First, the level of the professional identity scored 3.46 on the 5-point scale. The sub-variable which scored highest was sense of mission (3.77), followed by belief in the public services (3.76), belief in autonomy (3.61), belief in self-regulation (3.37) and use of the professional organization as reference of behaviors (2.83) in their order.Second, the factors affecting the 5 sub-variables of the professional identity were analyzed. As a result of the factors affecting 'use of the professional organizations as reference of behaviors', no such factor was found, although the results were some significant. As a result of analyzing the factors affecting 'belief in public services', it was found that fame of the company contributing to the society affected this sub-variable most (Beta=.318). As a consequence of analyzing the factors affecting 'belief in self-regulation', no significant factors were found, although the consequences were some significant. As a result of analyzing the factors affecting 'sense of mission', fame of the company contributing to the society was found most influential factor (Beta=.317). As a result of analyzing the factors affecting 'belief in autonomy', the factor 'autonomy' was found most influential (Beta=.309).Based on the above findings, the following practical implications were suggested;First, it is important to promote the fame as company contributing to the society.Since the factor affecting the professional identity most was perception of fame, it is deemed necessary to develop influential and effective programs to promote the fame.Second, it is necessary to enhance the status of the organization contributing to the society and make its activities official. Many companies have no such exclusive organizations or have only embryonic ones, and therefore, the philanthropic activities are neither supported internally nor official. So, it is essential to make the organization and its activities official.Third, it is necessary to develop professional education programs and expand the opportunities for education.Recently, such education programs for the personnels engaged in the social activities have been operated, while departments of social welfare studies at some colleges have opened the courses related to the philanthropic activities, but they seem to be much theoretical. So, it is deemed necessary to operate the education programs for practical knowledge.Fourth, it is required of the personnels engaged in the social activities to make efforts to be supported by their family members.Since family support helps to enhance their professional identity, affecting their sense of mission much, it is desirable to develop family-wise programs, while making more efforts to enhance understanding of and support to philanthropic activities.Key words: philanthropic activities, personnels engaged in the philanthropic activities, professional identity, perception of characteristics of the organization, environment of the organization, perception about fame, socialization of the professional services.
