1980년대 이후 패션에 나타난 초현실주의 표현에 관한 연구 = (A) Study of Surrealistic Expression Described in Contemporary Fashion Since 1980s

Surrealism, not restricted from any rules and traditions but tried to produce a new appreciations in the world of dream and unconsciousness, also has affected fashion.
In this study, as theoretical basis upon Surrealism, the aesthetics and expressive methods of Surrealism have examined, the characteristics and ideas of the style have investigated through the works of Surrealism fashion.
the purpose of this study is to open new horizon in the plastic art, to examine the characteristics of Surrealism fashion closely which is being lighted up again newly in the recent culture that is in a state of flux, and further to contribute to the creation of future plastic art by analyzing Surrealism once again which is considered to have affected most in the aspects of aesthetics and expressive methods from the early of 1930s up to recently, to understand and develop the relation of modern art and fashion.
Modern society is so diversified and relativized that no value can take up a predominant or superior position. This social characteristic affects fashion; as a result, fashion designers have tried to express cultural diversity and complexity in their fashion. This spreads more widely when personal aesthetic self-consciousness increases more and more. In this study, the characteristic elements of symbolic objects, double image, trompe-l'?il, d?paysement, in Surrealism are classified according to the application of contemporary fashion.
By the result observed through this study, the symbolic objects, double image and trompe-l'?il technique of Surrealism fashion created by Elsa Schiaparelli who was strongly influenced by Surrealism in 1930s have been succeeded with its inspiration of Surrealism by the experimental and avant-garde fashion designers recently and we are able to know that it is being created again by new senses. Particularly, d?paysement has been designed in the Surrealism fashion and varied differently by fashion designers in accordance with their intentions.
This study on the relation between Surrealism and fashion ultimately presents the trend of contemporary fashion and the direction of plastic art in the future.
