The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-esteem, social support, and coping on the relation between adolescent's stress and depression, physical symptoms.
369 high school students were participated and completed a set of questionaries. We examined the influence of stress on adolescent‘s depression and physical symptoms, and investigated whether self-esteem, social support and approach coping function as a moderator or not.
The results of this study were as follows. First, adolescent's academic and interpersonal stress had direct effects on depression and physical symptoms. Second, as a result of moderating effect of self-esteem, social support, and approach coping, the moderating effect of self-esteem was significant in female group. But no moderating effects were significant in male group.
The results of this study show that the process of adolescent's stress and psychological, physical adaption has differences between male and female. Implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.
