The purpose of this study is to examine the predictors of intention of accepting mobile advertising, which composes of two stages of information processing such as SMS(short message service) and WAP(wireless application protocol) pages.
The independent variables are five factors including three variables of attitudes toward advertising(usefulness, playfulness, and negative reaction), gratification, and perceived ease of use. while dependant variable is intention of accepting mobile advertising.
An internet survey of 408 respondents aged from 10s to 30s, who experienced mobile advertising in last one month, was conducted to gather data needed to test eight research questions.
The results of pearson correlation analysis showed that five independent variables such as usefulness, playfulness, and negative reaction, gratification, and perceived ease of use had statistically significant relationship with dependent variable which is intention of accepting mobile advertising. More specifically, four independent variables such as usefulness, playfulness, negative reaction, and gratification had positive relationship with intention of accepting mobile advertising while one independent variable such as negative reaction had negative relationship with intention of accepting mobile advertising.
It meant that intention of accepting mobile advertising increases as usefulness, playfulness, negative reaction, and gratification increase, while it decreases as negative reaction on mobile advertising increases.
The multiple regression analysis was also conducted to examine the relative importance of five independent variables in terms of standardized regression coefficients.
It turned out that gratification variable was the best predictor of intention of accepting mobile advertising, followed by usefulness, playfulness, and perceives ease of use.
In addition, two-way ANOVA was conducted to examine six interaction effects between usefulness and gratification, usefulness and perceived ease of use, playfulness and gratification, playfulness and perceived ease of use, negative reaction and gratification, negative reaction and perceived ease of use.
The findings showed that one interaction effects between negative reaction and perceives ease of use was statistically significant while the other four interaction effects between usefulness and gratification, usefulness and perceived ease of use, playfulness and gratification, playfulness and perceived ease of use, negative reaction and gratification was statistically not significant.
It meant that perceived ease of use influenced the relationship between negative reaction and intention of accepting mobile advertising while it had nothing to do with the relationships between usefulness and gratification, usefulness and perceived ease of use, playfulness and gratification, playfulness and perceived ease of use, negative reaction and gratification.
More specifically, intention of accepting mobile advertising was higher when negative reaction was low and perceived ease of use was high than when both negative reaction and perceives ease of use were low. Therefore, it was concluded that only perceives ease of use played a significant role as the moderator which influenced the relationship between negative reaction and intention of accepting mobile advertising.
