This study is investigated with special education assistants about their job satisfaction and job stresses based on background variables and then their mutual relation. The final object of this study is to transform factors of job stresses into those of job satisfaction by using the former investigations. Questionnaires were delivered to 388 special education assistants who worked at special classes in national special schools or general schools and 261 questionnaire were retrieved among them. I made them process of statistics and analysed the results. The results of study were follows;
First, they were satisfied with job itself and humane relationship on the whole , but not social recognition and salaries among subordinate factors of job satisfaction. In addition, there were meaningful differences based on scholarship, certificates of qualification, the degree of disabilities, but not periods of duty, numbers of guided students, types of disabilities in features based on background variables. When the factors that makes meaningful differences were examined, the university graduates were less satisfied with their jobs than high school and college graduates in factors of scholarship and processors who have certificates of social welfare and child care teachers were more satisfied with their jobs than unqualified people and general teachers in factors of certificates of qualification. Also, special education assistants in charge of students of profound retardation were highest stressful and those in charge of students of students of slight retardation were lowest stressful in the factors of the degree of disabilities. Other factors did not show many meaningful differences but special education assistants who have experience of 2-3years were lowest satisfied and those who have experience of over 3 years were highest satisfied with their jobs in factors of periods of duty.
Second, there were meaningful differences based on periods of duty, numbers of guided students, the degree of disabilities, but not other factors based on background variables. Special education assistants who have experiences of under 1 year were lowest stressful and those who have experience of under 2-3years were highest stressful in the factors of periods of duty. Also, special education assistants who feel nervous and have overburden by being charge of a student were highest stressful and those who can communicate with disabled students individually by being charge of
Third, the mutual relation of job satisfaction and job stresses were far high. They showed meaningful differences by the coefficient of corelation and all showed meaningful differences in the coefficient of corelation of person and relatively high corelation of inverse proportion.
In conclusion, job satisfaction will be high if factors of job stresses are examined and improved Actually, labor conditions and salaries of special education assistants who take care of students with disabilities under the difficult conditions should be improved. In addition, the lack of training opportunities was chosed as a factor of common dissatisfaction that cause high stresses. So, lasting and professional training programs that can improve profession of tasks such as exact understanding of disabilities, professional care skills and supporting of integrated classes should be provided to them to achieve betterment of education services.
The suggestions to continue this kind of study( the study of job environment of special education assistants) succeedingly based on results of this study are as follows;
First, there are limits to generalize the results of this study because the local region of this study was sep up only for special education assistants of Gyeong-Nam province so the study about the job satisfaction and job stresses of special education assistants should be executed nationally to generalize results.
Second, some studies that present job environment showed from differences between special schools specifically will be necessary because it was difficult to set up validity of specific contents about differences of job environment between special schools in background variables.
Third, some specific studies such as job training, betterment of job conditions should be executed succeedingly by analyzing tasks more deeply. Also, vertical studies on job environment of special education assistants should be practiced to improve job environment and treatments directly.
