The purpose of this study is aim to examine the effect of appreciation program on the subjective well-being of general high school students.
This appreciation program has been invented by Yong-Ta who is a bonze of the Happiness Center, and this study, especially appreciation meditation program, has been reconstructed for considering the preference and personality of the general high school students.
All the participants are the first grade of the H general high school students in Busan. Eighty-seven participants were chosen for the experimental group and the same number of non-participants for the control group. At the result of the same quality test, there were no meaningful difference, so it was ascertained that is true. The experimental group has 14-sessions appreciation program conducted by the researcher, it was practiced twice a week, for fifty minutes or thirty minutes, while the control group did not get any treatment during this period.
To verify the effects of the program, tests were given to both groups before and after the program using the subdivision of the subjective well-being effect, the life satisfaction scale, the positive and negative emotion scale. ANCOVA was applied to data processing by using spss. Test on the therapeutic factors were given to the experimental group after the program and average and standard deviation were compared to find out the major therapeutic.
To supplement the possible limitation of the quantitative data processing, qualitative analysis was made on the basis of personal reports of the experimental group written in the middle of the program and after the program.
The result of this study can be summarized as follows,
The scores of the experimental group in the life satisfaction and positive emotion scale were higher than the control group, while the scores of the experimental group have had lower scores than the control group in the negative emotion scale. So the subjective well-being has been increased.
It was shown that appreciation program was helpful in increasing the subjective well-being of general high school students.
