After school program is an effective solution to support the insufficiency of regular educational services. So many schools and parents are concerned about the program. It provides various classes specified for the regional characteristics, the demand of student and the actual circumstance of the school. The activities included in the after school program so various that we need a deep understanding for each activities.
Musical program for an after school program has affirmative effects for the spirit and body of students because it contains three important elements, music, acting and dancing. However, the balance of three elements are frequently ignored. The program generally concentrate only on the acting and dancing bypassing the music part. Under such situation the educational effect of musical can be reduced because musical has strong point for education in that it has three different activities and needs the balance of them.
The actual situation of musical program is surveyed from the Ban-Seok elementary school in Dea-Jeon and Mok-Dong middle school in Seoul by means of the personal interviews and the questionnaires. Teachers, who are amateurs in musical, concentrate upon the performance which are held at the end of the program. Students practice acting and dancing with CD player. There is almost no efforts on learning music. They have no idea on that musical is composed of three elements, music, acting and dancing. It is clarified that there is problem in musical program and it is the disregard of music part.
The educational courses for musical teaching program considering the balance of three elements of musical suggested in this work. The courses designed for elementary school and middle school respectively are presented. The writer expect this work could contribute toward the development of the musical programs for after-school program which are just on the beginning stage.
