This study is to investigate the effects of the free token response cost technique on the class obstacle behaviors (such as disrupting others, fooling around, and being distracted) of young children at risk with ADHD.
The subjects of this study were two 5-year-old male children who were in an elementary school-affiliated kindergarten, and were designated as children at risk with ADHD because they were diagnosed as ADHD by teachers based on the criteria for diagnosis of ADHD but were not diagnosed by specialists. The IQ(Intelligence Quotient) of the subjects were 84 and 105, respectively. The experimental design of this study was selected from the multiple baseline behaviors among methods of single-subject design research, and were processed through baseline, mediation, and maintenance. Each stage was recorded on video, and the frequency of target behaviors was calculated by percentage for comparison.
According to the results of this study, firstly, the mediation using free token response cost had positive effects on the reduction of such as disrupting others of young children at risk with ADHD. Secondly, the mediation using free token response cost had positive effects on the reduction of fooling around of young children at risk with ADHD. Thirdly, the mediation using free token response cost had positive effects on the reduction of being distracted of young children at risk with ADHD.
Conclusively, it can be said that the mediation using free token response cost positively affected the reduction of the class obstacle behaviors of young children at risk with ADHD.
