• The reason that construal level theory was attracted among various prior researches regarding temporal distance is that it firstly revealed the mental representation of the event differs by temporal distance. This research asserts that the psychological distance which derives the construal level difference includes not only the temporal distance, but also the other distances like social, spatial one. The purpose of this study is to show that uncertainty can be one of the temporal distances which bring the construal level differences of alternatives.
• The major findings are summarized as follow:
• First, when the temporal distance is constant as near future, the construal level difference by uncertainty is not significant. In distant future condition, the construal level difference by uncertainty is significant. As it is, while the uncertain situation makes the alternative whose high level construal is good more attractive, the certain situation makes the one whose low level construal good more attractive when the time is constant.
• Second, when uncertainty and temporal distance are analysed together, the construal level effect by temporal distance was disappeared, however, the construal level effect by uncertainty revealed. The three way interaction of temporal distance, uncertainty, and the construal level was not significant, which shows that uncertainty doesn''t play a moderating role. These results show that uncertainty can be the another dimension of psychological distance which causes the construal level difference of alternatives.
• The theoretical as well as practical implications are also discussed
