This study investigated the relationship between parents' verbal control modes and children's personality traits according to child sex. The subjects of this study were 200 families (200 children, 200 fathers, and 200 mothers) three to five years old children of kindergaten or nurseries in Busan, Korea. To asses parents' verbal control modes and children's personality traits the scales of Lee(2006) and Kang(1989) were used. Means, %, Cronbach ?, t-test, Pearson's r, multiple regression analysis were used for data analyses. The main results are as follows: 1. that parents control their children mostly by position-oriented mode and least by imperative mode. Most parents showed the tendency of conducting the behavior of their children with authoritative position rather than imperativeness. 2. Among children's personality traits sociality was highest in score and impulsiveness was lowest. Boy scare was higher than girl on activity tendency. 3. Imperativeness mode and position-oriented mode were negatively related to stability, reflectiveness among children's personality traits. 4. The verbal control of father had a stronger influence on children's personality traits that mother's.
