The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the Empathic approach through fairy tales on promoting of young children's linguistic expression.
The subjects were 39 four-year-old children at kindergartens in Seoul, and they were divided into two groups; 20 experimental group and 19 comparative group. The experimental group did Empathic approach through fairy tales activities using two times a week. The study also pre-test and post-test of linguistic expression.
To conduct the test of linguistic expression, the study made use of diagram material that the author produced based on YI Ji-yeoun research(1999).
The study conducted on both independent sample to investigate difference between the groups. SPSS WIN 12.0 was used.
Research subject of this study; Does the effect of the Empathic approach through fairy tales on the young children's linguistic expression?
A day of fairy tales was established for experimental group. Teachers read them fairy tales and let them write and express the content of fairy tales. Same fairy tales were given to the comparative group. They heard the contents of fairy tales without teacher's role.
Eleven fairy tales as an instrument of this study were selected related to infant's curriculum and life theme. Teachers made them listen to fairy tales two book a week for six weeks
The results of this study are as follows;
Firstly, the children of experimental group who Empathic approach through fairy tales using activities showed a significant difference in the number of words used as sub-factor of the linguistic expression than the comparative group.
Secondly, the children of experimental group who Empathic approach through fairy tales using activities showed a significant difference in number of sentences used as sub-factor of the linguistic expression than the comparative group.
Thirdly, the children of experimental group who Empathic approach through fairy tales using activities showed a significant difference in the number of words per sentence used as sub-factor of the linguistic expression than the comparative group.
It is very important to research linguistic expression ability, so continuous effort will be required to research this study.
