The purpose of this study was to examine the dance education system of art high school from diverse angles, students' opinion on problems with that and the major cause of the problems, and to present how to improve educational environments for art high school to provide specialized dance education. The subjects in this study were 536 students, on whom a survey was conducted. To test the validity of the instrument used in the study, a principal component analysis was carried out, which was an exploratory factor analysis, and as for reliability, Cronbach alpha coefficient was utilized to confirm the item internal consistency of it. What problems the dance education system was faced with in terms of curriculum, teacher and students was investigated, and then ANOVA was used by selecting the general characteristics of the students and their awareness of the educational system, curriculum and educational environments as independent and dependent variables respectively. In addition, multiple regression analysis was implemented by choosing their satisfaction level with educational environments and the components of the selected areas as an dependent variable and independent variables respectively.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, concerning their view of the curriculum by gender, school, major, practical school hours for major and minor, theoretical school hours for dance, time for extracurricular practice and frequency of it, they gave good marks to the flexibility of curriculum management and the operation of major courses. They took a statistically significant view of those things. As to connections between satisfaction level with overall educational environments and curriculum, the multiple correlation coefficient(r) between the two was .602, and curriculum made a 36.2% contribution to their satisfaction level with overall educational environments. Among the components of the curriculum factor, satisfaction level with the operation of major courses was most influential, followed by resilient curriculum management and awareness of educational ideals.
Second, as to their evaluation of educational environments by gender, school, major, practical school hours for major and minor, theoretical school hours for dance, time for extracurricular practice and frequency of it, they expressed statistically significantly different satisfaction with equipment, educational spaces and amenities.
Regarding the influence of educational environments, the multiple correlation coefficient(r) between satisfaction level with educational environments and educational surroundings was .555, and the latter made a 30.8% prediction of the former. Among the components of curriculum, satisfaction with academic evaluation made the best prediction, followed by satisfaction with equipment, satisfaction with educational spaces and satisfaction with amenities.
Third, as for the impact of school and practical school hours for minor on student selection, they gave high marks to the selection of student, and their satisfaction with that was statistically significantly different. Concerning the relationship of the selection of students to satisfaction with educational environments, the multiple correlation coefficient(r) between the two was .318, and that made a 10.11% prediction of it.
Fourth, in regard to their view of teachers by school, major, practical school hours for major and minor and the number of creative lessons, they gave good marks to teachers, and there was a statistically significant gap in their satisfaction with them. As for the influence of teachers, the multiple correlation coefficient(r) between satisfaction with educational environments and satisfaction with teachers was .641, and the former was predicted by 41.1 percent by the latter. Regarding the contribution level of the components of curriculum, satisfaction with education provided by teachers was most influential, followed by needs for a supply of more teachers.
Fifth, concerning the direction for their career by gender, school, academic year, major, practical school hours for major and frequency of extracurricular practice, they got high mean scores, and there was a statistically significant gap among them in that regard. As to the relationship of career to satisfaction with educational environments, the multiple correlation coefficient(r) between the two was .364, and the former made a 13.2% prediction of the latter. As for the contribution level of the components of curriculum, the prospects of major was most influential, followed by the direction for career.
The findings of the study suggested that specialized dance education should be provided in art high school after preparing a flexible curriculum, and sustained research efforts should be channeled into developing a wide variety of programs that are creative and encourage students to determine in which direction they should move ahead.
