Highschool students are generally confronting the stage of struggling with a multitude of conflicts and confusion, including problems of his or her own future job, relationships with other teenagers or family. Adolescence is very significant age for boosting self-resilience in order to prepare for these troubles and cope with given situations more positively and flexibly.
The goal of this study is to prove how much a self search program applying tarot cards could influence highschool students' self-resilience. Subjects of this study were 31 volunteers of "Y" highschool in Masan. Its measuring tool is a self -resilience test composed of the categories of self-confidence, efficiency in interpersonal skills, optimistic attitudes, anger control, and others.
The program used in this study, a self search program applying tarot cards consisting of 10 sessions in total, was statistically analyzed through pre & post resilience tests. Qualitative analysis of this program was also formed by students' comments after all of the sessions.
This study assumed that scores of self-resilience between experimental & control groups would be close to the same before the program, but that the program would cause significant differences between two groups after the program. To demonstrate this hypothesis, t-verification confirmed the innate similarity between two groups and repeated measures variate analysis showed marked change of pre & post test variation values in the experimental group, with no difference in the control group.
The change of subordinate factors, including self-confidence, efficiency in interpersonal skills and optimistic attitude, in the case of the experimental group is remarkable whereas there was no distinction in the control group. Thus the program turned out to be definitely effective. As far as anger control is concerned, both of the groups rose a little, so it is thought to be affected to only a small extent; it is probably due to the small number of questions related to that category and the short-duration of the program.
The results of this study assert that a self search program applying tarot cards does have notable positive effects on teen students' self-resilience. Qualitative analysis through subject feedback manifests it was a very meaningful time for all of the students, who actually hoped of more opportunities like this would be given. The more sessions given, the better presentation of self-confidence attained, the more close relationship between members and the more improvement in accepting others. Tarot interpretation activities lead to a positive, receptive and resilient attitude while deciphering others' cards as well as their own.
This program enables students to reflect on their inner appearance and seize chances to improve themselves beyond the given curriculum to grow up as mature men who can share positive energy with their neighbors.
It will be significant to investigate when is the most effective time to apply this self search program, in their development stages, and also it needs exploring, whether there is a correlation with other internal attributes besides self-resilience.
