Nowadays, many people started to be interested in the style which could express their individuality and personality. The Cold permanent waving makes various hair styles available. But, recently developed Digital setting permanent offers much abroad variety of styling options for the customer.
Hair sustains considerable structural damage from Permanent that use heat and chemicals to achieve the desired effect.
Therefore, this paper studied the measurement of the hair damaged by Cold permanent waving and Digital setting permanent waving. Also, they were analyzed and compared the state of the hair resulting from Cold wave and Digital setting permanent using hair damage measurement techniques.
This paper considers tensile strength and elongation using two kinds of samples prepared from hair that had been treated by different kinds of permanent compared with healthy hair evaluated by an independent group of hair experts.
The tensile strength and elongation test rates from healthy hair were 0.0138kN and 56.4% respectively. By contrast, treated hair rates were 0.0131kN and 56.9% leading to the conclusion that elongation is greater and tensile strength is lower in treated hair than in healthy hair. Furthermore, cold wave permanent treatments leave the hair with a regular curl pattern. However, digital setting permanent treatments leave an irregular curl pattern and lower tensile strength than cold wave permanent treatments.
The average elongation rates and tensile strengths were 0.141kN and 56.0% respectively in untreated hair. Average measurements of tensile strength and elongation in cold wave treated hair were 0.0132kN and 57.8% where the corresponding average digital wave measurements were 0.0120kN and 60.0% respectively. These results lead to the conclusion that digital setting treatments have a considerably greater adverse affect on hair than do cold wave permanent treatments. The experiments demonstrate that permanent treatments reduce tensile strength and increase elongation of hair, however, digital setting treatments cause considerably more damage to hair than do cold wave permanent treatments.
Both cold wave and digital setting treatments cause significant damage to hair but the greater damage caused by digital setting treatments also results in irregular curl patterns as well. Thus, this paper offers fundamental information on comparative damage rates for cold wave and digital setting permanent treatments.
