The purpose of this study is to identify the relation between career decision making style, career indecision and ego-identity for college students, and to know which way to diagnose differently and intervene college students who suffered different career issues to one another would be useful.
To accomplish this purpose, the following questions were set up:
First, what relation is there between career decision making style and career indecision factors? Second, what relation is there between career decision making style and ego-identity subfactors? Third, what influence would career indecision have according to ego-identity subfactors? Fourth, how different is career decision making style according to the extent of career indecision and ego-identity?
The objects of this study were 300 in total of male and female students of K university located in Chungnam, and study tools were career decision making style test, career indecision test and ego-identity test.
For data process, Pearson's r and multiple regression analysis were used.
The results of this study were summed up as follows:
First, rational style among career decision making styles was found to have a low career indecision and a high ego-identity. In other words, in case of deciding and preparing career, rational style among career decision making styles could be more effective than intuitive or dependent style because the person of this type foresees the necessity to make a decision on the future and collects information about a predictable situation as well as himself.
Second, revealed was each of those relations between career decision making style and career indecision, between career decision making style and ego-identity subfactors and between career indecision factors and ego-identity subfactors. Based on this, in case of career counseling for real college students who are setting up their goal of career and preparing the future on the basis of understanding themselves, various aspects of career decision making style, career indecision and ego-identity should be considered instead of one specific part. Therefore, it is expected that understanding the client's situation and environment and meeting his needs accordingly would help increase their experience of rational choice in case of career decision making, and moreover, the effectiveness of career counseling would be very huge.
To give some proposals for the direction of studies in the future focusing on the results of this study, it is needed to improve ego-identity through the relation between career decision making style, career indecision and ego-identity for college students and to solve career indecision factors by substantial systematic programs to enhance the client's rational career decision making. Consequently, the counselor is required to understand various aspects of the client in case of career counseling, and analyzing the relation of intuitive style among career decision making styles was not done, thus it also needs to be studied.
