The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of relationship enhancement training program based on the Glasser's Choice Theory upon elementary school students' interpersonal relationship and happiness.
To achieve this study's goal, the research design used was the pre-test and post-test comparative group design. The subjects were the students of two classes(60 students) in 6th grade in S Elementary School in Daegu. One class was the experimental group and the other class was the comparing group. The program used in the study were the segments of the revised version of the Mental Health Enhancement Program(Kim, Soon-up, 2005) by Woo Hyun-Ju(2006), which were related to the concept of choosing behaviors and relationship improvement. The program was implemented by the researcher for 40 minutes everyday from March 2, 2007 to March 9, 2007. The instruments employed were the Peer Relationship Scale, the Teacher-Student Relationship Scale, the Parent-Child Relationship Scale, and the Happiness Scale. The collected data were analysed using the ANCOVA of the SPSS 12.0 version.
The results of the study were as follows. The experimental group's relationship with classmate, teachers, and parents were significantly increased, and happiness was also significantly increased. The results showed that the program of the study based on the Glasser's Choice Theory was an effective tool for the improvement of the elementary school students' interpersonal relationship and happiness.
