노인일자리 참여자의 생활만족도에 관한 연구 : 노인종합복지관을 중심으로 = Satisfaction Study of the Senior Job Placement Project Participants : Based on the Survey at Senior Welfare Center

Recently South Korean society has been modernized and industrialized, undergoing separation of family and work, specialization of political, religious, and educational role of family due to the destruction of traditional family hierarchy. Therefore it led to an emergence of new values such as individualism, materialism, and opportunism, causing degradation of social position and authority of elderly people. This change in sense of values brought loss and isolation of financial status for elderlies as well as their role in family and society, highlighting such financial problem for the aged as serious social issue.
As South Korea enters an "aging society", ensuring income security for the aged by reinforcing social security system is the most urgent task in order to increase satisfaction from the aged. At the same time, elderly people wanting and capable of working should be able to get a job in the labor market to maintain stable income.
This study is trying to identify differences between the quality of elderly people participating and not participating in the Senior Job Placement Project, and compare the differences in the satisfaction level of two groups based on their participation. This study hopes to contribute to the development of Senior Job Placement Project by providing basic information for the project foundation.
The participants are senior citizen aged 60 and over who uses Senior Welfare Center. The study was conducted for 7 days from March 30 to April 5 in 2007, and the information was collected through a formal survey. Of the 240 surveys that were handed out, total of 213 survey results were used after some ommission of 27 untrustworthy answers.
Statistical analysis was done by frequencies, chi-square test, one-way anova, and t-test in the SPSS WIN 12.0 statistical package and below is the summary of the analysis.
A job for the aged means simply living a life with stable income, maintaining a health and self-confidence as a member of society, and having a sound relationship with other people. The elderlies participating in the Senior Job Placement Project are payed 200,000 won monthly which is not a significant amount, however the project helps elderlies utilize their time more efficiently through active social involvement. Moreover the elderly people show enthusiasm and satisfaction through the project participation. It is also confirmed that those who did not participate revealed a positive feedback and showed an urge for participating in the project, hoping for better health and time management. Also a satisfaction level was higher among the participating group than the non-participating group. Therefore it is imperative to continue the project and further reach out to wider population through diversification and expansion of the project.
Based on these results, our study suggests the following.
First, the result shows that the participants of the Senior Job Placement Project feels that there are little financial incentives, and there are certain gap between the current income and desired income even from the non-participant group. It is crucial for the project to alleviate elder's financial burden, and to develop various job positions to meet the qualification and adaptability of the elder people.
Second, most of the project participants want the project to be continued and extended. A number of non-participants also want to participate in the program. This tells us that even though the government is putting huge budget into the project, there are still long way to haul for reaching up to the satisfaction level. The project renders various effects such as increased income, efficient time management, increased social status for the elderlies through job participation. Therefore more budget should be allocated to increase more involvement of the old generation.
Third, due to the changing life cycle of older generation, old couples live more time together and after retirement. With appropriate income level, social role, and mental acknowledgement of elderlies, the government, local communities, and corporate should work together to help them live happy life through various institutional, administrative, and financial support.
