      The purpose of this study is to see how social supports which the children from low income families perceive on their psycho-social adaptation influence the children and to find social welfare methods to improve the psycho-social adaptation of the children from low income families.
      The study conducted a survey with 236 elementary students who are visiting 15 community children centers located in Dae-Gu city and the conclusion is as follows after analyzing the results of the study.
      First, in social support according to general characteristics, female students perceive parents' affective support, friends' affective and informational support and the affective support of teachers of study rooms more highly than male students. And higher graders perceive parents' material support and friends' informational and material support more highly than lower graders. On the other hand, the lower graders perceive the affective, informational and material support of the teachers at study rooms more highly than the higher graders. The students who have both mother and father perceive parents' affective support more highly than those who have only father. And students who have only father also perceive parents' informational support and the material support of the teachers at study rooms more highly than the students who have only mother.
      Second, in the psycho-social adaptation according to general characteristics, male students commit more misdeed than female students do, lower graders feel more depression and unstability than higher graders, and higher graders are more aggressive than lower ones.
      Third, in the influence of social support on the psycho-social adaptation, depression and unstability are largely influenced by parents' and friends' support. Being disprited is mainly influenced by the support of friends and the teachers at study rooms and misdeed and aggression are roughly influenced by the support of parents and the teachers at study rooms.
      Fourth, From the view point of the influence of various types of social support on the psycho-social adaptation, The degree of depression and unstability is diversely proportional to that of friends' material support and parents' informational support. With the same relations, the degree of being dispirited is to that of parents' affective and material support what aggression is to information support of the teachers of study rooms and parents' material support and friends' affective support. The higher parents' informational and material support, the informational support of the teachers at study rooms, parents' affective support, the higher the degree of psycho-social adaptation.
      Fifth, the higher the social support, the higher psycho-social adaptation.
      Based on the result of the study, social welfare methods to improve the psycho social adaptation can be suggested as the followings.
      First, systematic and professional resources from various sectors of the communities are required.
      Second, service institutes within the communities need to be strengthened constantly.
      Third, a variety of programs for the children with low-income families should be developed.
      Fourth, functional support as well as structural support need to be provided.
      At last, various standards should be developed to find out the degree of the psycho-social adaptation for children with low-income families to fit into real lives more accurately.
      And the following study considering relevant variations should be conducted in addition to the social support of parents, friends and the social support of the teachers atf study rooms.
