Youths tend to get exposed to almost all the cultures by clicking computer mouses and through using their handy cellular phones in the 21st century, the time of digital culture, so their emotional personality which must be most importantly developed are getting dry. In addition, the examination-oriented education has proved to exclude human nature and has made juveniles more selfish and compulsive without controling their emotions. As such an educational atmosphere is disappointing, it is necessary to study on how to teach chorus to change their personality. I study, plan and devise this chorus-teaching model for youths' personality changes.
The three important factors in music are rhythm, melody and harmony. They, including tempo, dynamics, timbre, tune, and other musical factors, affect humans' spirits and bodies in many ways. Rhythm helps parts and organs of the body like feet and hands to act, improves blood circulation, betters power of thinking and forms solidarity among individuals and groups. Tune, caused by vibration, induces tension and relaxation of nerves. Timbre, a quality of sound, plays a important role in putting emotions into communication and melody stimulates imagination. Harmony makes people feel inwardly harmonized or comfortable.
Chorus-teaching education is considered valuable in the findings of the former theses which claim that people's ways of thinking and personality can be changed by an activity of chorus with the above factors combined. So here I, whatever the causes of juveniles' psychological problems are, propose several chorus-teaching methods to change youths' personality according to their psychological conditions. First one is for relationship and self-esteem, second one is for feeling and emotion, third one is for sociality, fourth one is for responsibility and changes in attitude towards life. Besides, this thesis includes a chorus-teaching plan with healing purpose to change juveniles' personality and six pieces of music which represent it most.
This is written with the accent on developing interesting and creative chorus-teaching methods with spontaneous plays, songs, instrumental music, creation, rhythmic movement, conducting to have exciting chorus-teaching classes in which students can participate and to heal their inward through chorus activities.
The characteristics of the chorus-teaching classes which is designed to change youths' personality in combination with songs, instrumental music, appreciation, creation are as follows.
1. Chorus in part can make students appreciate music and write the lyrics.
2. Listening after arranging chorus in union into chorus in part or instrumental music gives students opportunities to compare timbre of instruments with that of humans and to feel aesthetic change.
3. Chorus leads to conducting and then body expresses itself in order to feel rhythm and phrase.
4. Playing the short bamboo flute after chorusing and creating an ostinato melody makes it possible to chorus with instrumental music play.
5. During the evaluation time, students diagnose their own mental problems and teachers heal them and provide them with positive feedbacks as students express themselves by writing and drawing and then discuss among themselves.
This model has various pieces of music to change students' personality and is designed to be modified and to be applied according to different students and different teachers. Yet this is not put into reality. I wish that this would be practiced widely and prove to be an effective way of chorus-teaching.
