The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of ego-resiliency and social support on the burnout of daycare teachers.
The participants of this research were 328 daycare teachers who had been worked for daycare center in Gyeonggi area for more than one year. To assess ego-resiliency, the inventory conceptualized by Block (1961/1978) and translated by Bak hyeonjin (1996) was used. And for social support assessment, the questionnaire of social support perception which was made by Yun hyejeong (1993) on the base of the inventory of social support (the source of provision) made by Bak jiwon (1985) was used. In order to assess the burnout of daycare teachers, the inventory MBI which was developed by Maslach & Jackson (1981) and adapted by Choi hyeyun (2002) was used.
The collected data from the assessment were analyzed by applying statistical program SAS. To search general characteristics of subjects, frequency and percentage were applied and to verify the reliability of each inventory, Cronbach's α coefficient was applied. While correlation, multiple regression analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were implemented to analyze the data.
The results of this study are as followings.
First, as the result of researching the influence of teachers' private factor and ego-resiliency on the sub-factors of burnout, it has been shown that optimistic attitude has significant influence on decrease of the whole burnout.
Second, as the result of researching the influence of social support, the environmental factor for the daycare teacher, on the sub-factors of burnout, it has been shown that there are director's support, coworkers' support, and family's support in the order as the providers. When considering the social support mode which is affected by private trait, it has been shown that emotional support is the most effective factor and then informational support and appraisal support are effective in the order to decrease burnout. That is to say, the support by director, coworkers, and family as well as emotional support and informational support should be provided sufficiently.
Third, as the result of hierarchical analysis to research the influence of ego-resiliency, which is the private factor, and social support providers (director, coworkers, and family), which are the environmental factors, on burnout of daycare teachers, it has been shown that the more the teachers get director's support and coworkers' support, the less they experience the burnout.
It implies that the teachers' stability and the support by director and coworkers' would provide the belief 'I can do well.'.
Fourth, as the result of researching the influence of teachers' ego-resiliency and social support mode (emotional support, informational support, and appraisal support) on the sub-factors of burnout in hierarchical aspect, it has been shown that the sub-factor of ego-resiliency and social support have significant influence.
And also it has been shown that optimistic attitude among the teachers' private characteristics works as a factor to control emotion well while emotional support and informational support can decrease the burnout of daycare teachers.
