노인의 역할상실이 우울에 미치는 영향 = (The) effect of older people's role loss on their depression

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of loss of role variables on depression of the elderly. It did so by inteviewing the ederly aged 65 years and older who are residing in Cheongju city. This study examined that major determinants of depression among the ederly using Geriatric Depression Scale in korea(GDS-K). Reasearch data were collected from March 6 to March 20, 2006. 280 elderly persons over 63 were interviewed and 217 respondents' responses were finally analysed. The statistical methods used for the data analysis were descriptive statistics, one way anova, Pearson's correlation, t-test and multiple regression.
The major finding were obtained in this study as following.
First, the mean score of depression were 12.71 by GDS-K. Respondent's 41% mild depression and over level by GDS-K. Respondent's sex, education level, economic level, health status, leasure activity were effects on depression. Woman elderly, low educated, low incomes, poor self- perceived health and economic level, and poor leasure activity have high risk of depression.
Second, Respondent's age, sex, education level, economic level, health were effects on the loss of role. Old age, woman elderly, low educated, low incomes, poor self-perceived health has loss of role.
Third, The relations between role of loss and the depression showed significant correlation in education, economic, health state and spouse, friendship loss of role.
Fourth, Multiple regressions found that health and marrige state are major variables in elderly depression.
As a result, For the successful aging of the elderly, we should develop and provide to care which control the variables affecting to depression of the elderly.
The health should manage not only the physical aspects of the elderly but also the psychological and social aspects, and develop preventive program of depression on the basis of national policy.
