This study aimed to determine elders' life satisfaction based on joining Senior Community Service Employment Program(SCSEP) as a part of elder welfare policies allowing for aged society in near future. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine how much significant there might be differences in elders' life satisfaction depending on whether and how they join SCSEP, so that it could verify that ever-growing participations in SCSEP have positive influences upon their better life satisfaction.
To meet this goal, total 210 male and female elders at age 60 or older living in Daegu metropolitan city were asked to join a questionnaire survey from Sep. 11 to Sep. 22, 2006, and the results were analyzed using SPSS 10.0 program.
The major results of this study can be summed up as follows:
First, it was found that SCSEP participant group showed significantly higher life satisfaction than non-participant group, i.e. joining SCSEP is a positive factor influential on their better life satisfaction. Second, the analysis on elders' life satisfaction depending on their sociodemographic characteristics and whether they join SCSEP showed major significant effects of whether to join SCSEP(health condition, availability of spouse, bond with children, educational career and financial condition). In addition, in view of analysis about elders' life satisfaction depending on whether they join SCSEP by each subordinate group, it is found that SCSEP participant group showed significantly higher life satisfaction under their sociodemographic characteristics such as male, age of 60 or older, infirmities, grade school or lower academic career, and average financial condition. Third, in view of investigation into elder life satisfaction depending on how elders join SCSEP, it was found that they showed high satisfaction at joining employment program like SCSEP. In addition, their participation in SCSEP also had synergic effects on better quality of life in favor of financial assistance and local community development or self-development. Hence, it is necessary to accept broad needs from ever-diversified classes beyond current program focused on low income class, so that current SCSEP could be more promoted to prepare practical ways to contribute to improving elders' life satisfaction.
