The purposes of this study are to find the difference between the leadership life skills of children and adolescents by gender and grade, to observe the difference of leadership life skills based on individual variables and amount of social support, and to show the relative influence among leadership life skills, individual variables and social support. I surveyed 587 male and female students of 5th grade elementary school, 2nd grade middle school, 2nd grade high school in Busan through the questionnaire method. The data were analyzed by T-test, F-test, Pearson's regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
The following conclusions were reached;
1. There was a difference of leadership life skills according to grade and gender. Adolescents perceived leadership life skills more than children and girls perceived leadership life skills more than boys.
2. Children and adolescents who have higher self-esteem and more parent, teacher, and friend support showed higher leadership life skills.
3. The factors that predicted leadership life skills of children and adolescents according to gender were different; that is, self-esteem, androgyny, femininity, masculinity, friend support, and teacher support order for boys in childhood, self-esteem, androgyny order for girls in childhood, androgyny, self-esteem, friend support, femininity order for boys in adolescence, androgyny, self-esteem, parent support, position responsibilities order for girls in adolescence.
This study has the following significance.
It gave a chance to understand the different factors that improve leadership life skills of children and adolescents by showing the relative influence of leadership life skills, self-esteem, gender role identity, position responsibilities, social support. Also, it showed that the leadership life skills of children and adolescents are different by gender and grade.
