미국의 무용학 연구동향에 관한 연구 = A study of the current tendency of research in dance in the United States

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 우리나라 무용학의 체계화를 위해 무용학문의 중심지로서 연구가 체계적이고 활발하게 이루어지는 미국의 무용학 연구동향을 분석하여 우리나라 무용학 발전의 도움과 향후 연구방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다.
이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 미국 국회도서관의 데이터베이스에 수록된 석·박사 학위논문 742편의 연구물을 분석하였다. 분석대상으로 선정된 연구물은 연구 분야, 발표년도, 학교 및 학과, 학위종류, 주(State) 에 따라 부호화하여 입력 시킨 후 SPSS 통계프로그램에 의한 빈도분석을 통해서 연구물의 편수와 비율을 산출하였다.
분석 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 도출 할 수 있었다.
첫째, 연구 분야별로 분석한 결과 무용교육, 무용음악, 무용미학, 민족무용 분야가 많은 논문 편수가 있었으며, 무대효과론, 무용비평, 움직임분석, 무용보 분야에서는 낮은 비율이 나타났다.
둘째, 논문이 발표된 년도 별로 분석한 결과 1990년부터 2006년까지의 논문수가 가장 많았으며 1950년부터 1989년까지의 연구물은 저조한 수를 보였다.
셋째, 학교별로 분석한 결과 뉴욕대학교, 캘리포니아 주립대학교 롱비치, 탬플대학교, 텍사스 여자대학교 등이 많은 연구물을 발표하였다. 주(State)별로 분석한 결과, 캘리포니아 주, 뉴욕 주, 텍사스 주, 펜실바니아 주, 워싱턴 D.C, 오하이오 주, 플로리다 주, 일리노이스 주 등으로 편중되었다.
넷째, 학과별로 분석한 결과 무용과 관련된 논문들이 Department of Dance, Department of Music, Department of Arts Humanities, Department of Performance Studies, Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, Department of Performing Arts 등의 학과에 편중되었다. 학위별로 분석한 결과, Ph.D 학위 논문이 가장 많았으며 M.A 학위, Ed.D 학위, M.F.A 학위, D.M.A 학위, M.S 학위 등에 편중되었다.
포괄적인 시각에서 보기 위해 미국 대학의 학위 논문 뿐만 아니라 미국의 학회 및 학술연구단체의 논문을 분석하고 각 연구 분야 영역에 대한 연구동향을 보다 더 심층적으로 분석 작업할 필요성이 있으며, 국내에서 다루어지지 않는 다양한 주제들을 접하고 연구하여 질적이며 창의적인 연구를 만들어 우리나라의 무용학 학문이 더 발전하고 확장될 수 있는 노력과 연구가 필요하며, 이러한 관점에서 본 논문이 보탬이 되기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study focuses on dance studies in the United states, the center of country in the world where dance studies are actively and systematically well developed. I analyze the current tendency of research in dance in the United States so that this study may support dance studies in Korea and give an idea for research for those who study in dance.
I have collected 742 master theses and Ph.D's dissertations from data base of the Congress Library in Washington D.C in the United States. Those materials classified by field, year, school and department, degree and state are coded and calculated though SPSS program.
The results of this study are followings,
First, theses and dissertations in fields of dance education, music in dance, dance aesthetic and ethnic dance count for high percentages out of all objects. And dance production, dance criticism, Laban Movement Analysis, and dance notation count for low percentages out of all objects.
Second, theses and dissertations analyzed by year have high percentages in 1990 to 2006 and low percentages in 1950 to 1989.
Third, as I analyze my research by schools, New York University, California State University at Long Beach, Temple University and Texas Woman's University have produced a number of theses and dissertations. As I analyze my research by states, state of California, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, and Washington DC have produced a number of theses and dissertations.
Fourth, analyzed by department, most of theses and dissertations are presented from department of music, department of arts humanities, department of performance studies, department of music and performing arts professions, and department of performing arts. And analyzed by degree, most of theses and dissertations are presented from Ph.D, MA, Ed.D, MFA, DMA, and MS degree.
I suggest studying many fields of dance studies in depth for further research. Analyzing theses and dissertations from dance organizations or associations would be helpful to understand about dance studies in the United States in a broad aspect. I also suggest that uncommon subjects of dance fields be studied in order for dance studies in Korea to be qualitative and creative. Therefore, dance studies in Korea could become advanced and extended.
