The purpose of this study was to investigate the variable on young children' emotional and behavioral self -regulation as positive emotion regulation, negative emotion regulation, delay of gratification, compliance. Independent variables were young children' cognition ability(cognitive self-regulation, cognitive perspective-taking) and temperament(activity, sensitivity, adaptability, regularity ), mothers' parenting behaviors(limit setting, warmth, reactivity) and emotional expressiveness.
In order to achieve this purpose, the survey was taken into 157 young children and mothers from Daegu, Kyungpook and Kyungnam. Mothers' parenting behaviors and emotional expressiveness, young children' temperament, cognitive self-regulation, compliance were measured with questionnaire based on several studies. Emotional self regulation, delay of gratification, cognitive perspective-taking were measured with interview.
The data analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, factor analysis, Cronbach's α, correlation, multiple regression and logistic regression.
The major findings were as follows:
First, negative emotion regulation was affected by young children' cognitive perspective - taking, sensitivity of temperament, limit setting of parenting behaviors.
Second, positive emotion regulation was affected by young children' cognition ability and mothers' emotional expressiveness.
Third, compliance was affected by cognitive self regulation, activity of temperament, and mothers' , reactivity of parenting behaviors
Fourth, delay of gratification was affected by cognitive self regulation.
Given the conclusion drawn from this study, I'd like to make several suggestions as follows for future studies.
First, in further study there needs to investigate education related variables, because of emotional regulation and compliance can be influenced of educational and social experience,
Second, in this study only one kind of test instrument(candy) make used for measuring delay of gratification, but it should be diversify intensive. in additional, we have to use the different times and places of experiment.
Third, cognition ability's importance were revealed in this study. so, if we used cognitive intervention program on young children with problem behavior, it would be produce good effects.
