It is known that the main factors for Alcoholics' drinking behaviors pertain to their negative emotional state and distorted cognition about alcohol use. Therefore, it is necessary to take a serious view of alcoholic patients' affectivness and cognition.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of Maumsuryun Meditation training on alcoholic patients' depression, anxiety and beliefs about alcohol use. 18 alcoholic patients were randomly assigned to experimental group and comparative group 8 of them in an experimental group and 10 in a comparative group. The experimental group was provided with Maumsuryun Meditation training which were given three times a week for 90 minutes per each of 12 times. whereas comparative group were freely given any other program chosen by themselves as cures in hospital. To test the effectiveness of the program, both groups' degrees of depression, anxiety and belief about alcohol use were measured before and after the program repeatedly. The results of this study are as follows.
Firstly, there was not the significant difference between the statistics on depression of the experimental group and the comparative group.
Secondly, the experimental group had the significant deference compared to their counterparts statistically which shows Maumsuryun Meditation had an effective role in the decrease of the anxiety.
Lastly, there was no statistic deference between belief about alcohol use of two groups.
According to the above results, it is considered for Maumsuryun Meditation to be effective in the reduction of alcoholic patients' anxiety.
