2. What roles do teacher and peer groups play in the process of Young-hee's adaptation in a kindergarten?
For this study, the author chose Young-hee, a four-year old girl, as a subject, who is attending the author's kindergarten established at A elementary school in Changwon-city. Because Young-hee is having difficulty in getting adapted in kindergarten and getting along with peer group, and cannot volunteer in any activity.
After collecting data, such as interview with her patents, individual interaction between teacher and child, interaction with peer groups, and anecdotes, this author observed and recorded all the behavior of Young-hee, and then analyzed all cases.
The result of this study is shown below.
First, when the author looked after and cared for the child's uneasy mind caused after breaking up with her mother, a deep relationship with the child was developed.
Second, her relationship with teacher became the foundation of her relationship with peer groups, and her relationship with other children help her to acquire and develop her social skill
Third, sometimes peer groups suggested a certain play activity, and other times they asked teacher for help, and they involved Young-hee in the play activity, and gradually Young-hee showed an improvement in the adaptation to kindergarten. In this process, it is recognized that the role of teacher and peer groups is extremely important.
In short, in the process of Young-hee's adaptation to her kindergarten, teacher's effort to take care of her gave Young-hee self-confidence and a sense of stability, and made her peer group pay attention to her. With the help of peer groups who positively suggested play activity, she showed a good adaptation to the kindergarten.
