BSC 이행요인과 성과측정지표 특성이 성과에 미치는 영향 : BSC 수용·활용도의 매개효과를 중심으로 = Effects of BSC implementing factors, performance measures character, and BSC use on performance mediate effects of BSC use

국문 초록 (Abstract)

BSC 개념이 소개된 1992년 이래로 BSC는 기업성과를 향상시킬 수 있는 잠재력을 가진 경영도구로 빠르게 인식되어 가고 있으며 기업은 이를 경영혁신의 한 방법으로서 도입을 하고 있다. 그러나 BSC의 도입자체만으로는 BSC에 잠재된 성과를 올릴 수가 없다. BSC도입으로 인한 기대성과를 올리기 위해서는 조직구성원들이 BSC의 개념과 중요성을 인식하고 이를 전략계획 수립 등 다양한 목적으로 활용을 하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 BSC의 수용ㆍ활용을 촉진시키는 데에 어떠한 요인들이 영향을 미치는지 분석하였으며, 또한 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도와 기업성과가 어떠한 관련을 지니는 지를 분석하였다. 즉 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도가 기업성과를 향상시키는 직접효과가 있는 지, 혹은 기업성과를 향상시키는 매개효과가 있는지를 분석하였다.
분석을 위해 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 기업의 조직ㆍ행동적 특성인 BSC 이행요인과 시스템 특성인 성과측정지표 특성으로 정의를 하였다. BSC 이행요인에는 BSC 개념의 인지와 참여, 정보시스템 지원, 최고경영진 지원, 그리고 교육과 훈련을 사용하였으며, 성과측정지표 특성에는 구성적정성과 전략연계성을 사용하였다. 매개변수로 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도를 사용하였으며, 성과변수로 비재무적 성과와 재무적 성과를 사용하였다. 본 연구를 위해 BSC를 도입한 105개 기업을 대상으로 설문조사에 의한 실증연구를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 AMOS 5.0과 SAS 8.2를 사용하여 분석하였으며 연구가설은 구조방정식모형, 회귀분석, 분산분석, 그리고 Baron and Kenny의 매개효과 분석을 통하여 검정하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, BSC 수용ㆍ활용도는 기업성과에 직접적인 정의 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라 BSC 이행요인과 기업성과 간, 성과측정지표 특성과 기업성과 간의 매개효과를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도는 성과측정지표의 전략연계성, BSC 이행요인의 교육과 훈련, 그리고 최고경영진 지원과 기업성과 간에 매개효과를 지니는 것으로 입증되었다.
둘째, BSC 이행요인에서는 BSC 개념의 인지와 참여, 최고경영진 지원, 그리고 교육과 훈련이, 성과측정지표 특성에서는 전략연계성이 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 성과측정지표의 전략연계성은 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 국내에서는 매출액 1,000억 원 이상의 대규모 기업에서 BSC를 도입 운용하고 있으며 금융, 정보통신, 서비스 등의 비제조부분이 대다수를 차지하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
본 연구결과에 따르면, 조직의 전략목표와 연계하여 개발된 성과측정지표를 최고경영진의 지원과 함께 조직구성원들에게 관련교육을 실시하여 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도를 향상시킬 때 BSC 도입에 따른 기대성과를 얻을 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 곧 BSC 이행요인에 대한 적극적인 지원과 성과측정지표의 높은 전략연계성은 BSC 수용ㆍ활용도를 높이게 되며, BSC의 다양한 수용ㆍ활용도는 기업성과의 향상을 가져올 수 있다는 것을 의미한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The BSC has been recognized as an important management tool with the potential to improve organizational performance. Many firms have implemented this strategic management system but haven''t benefited from the full potential of its use. In order to benefit and enhance corporate performance from BSC adoption, firms need to recognize the concept and utilize it for various purpose.
The purpose of this study was to find success factors which impact to BSC use and to analyze the relationship between BSC use and corporate performance. And this study also to identify the mediate effects of BSC use between the success factors and corporate performance.
For the analysis of survey based empirical study, this study divided success factors into two groups: implementing factors and performance measures character as independent variables. Implementing factors included recognition of the BSC concept and the participation in BSC operation, IT support, top management commitment, and education and training. Performance measures character included proper composition of performance measures and link to corporate strategies.
The study shows that BSC implementing factors such as recognition and participation, top management commitment, and education and training have both a significant and positive influence on BSC use and that performance measures character such as strategic linkage play an important role in BSC use.
The study finds that BSC use has both a significant and positive influence on corporate performance directly. More use of BSC at various purpose, higher corporate performance especially in non-financial performance. The study also finds that BSC use has complete mediate effects between top management commitment, education and training, and strategic linkage and performance.
The study concludes that firms can enhance the corporate performance through BSC use with strategic linked performance measures, top management commitment, and education and training.
