Man develop while having relationship to the environment. In the process, he/she carries on a satisfactory life in harmony between self desire and the environment. When an individual achieves harmony and balance satisfactorily in the environment, it is called adjustment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the infant's temper and affection on the infant's adjustment to nursery, in order to help infants adjust well to the collective life among the same age in child care facilities(nursery and kindergarten) they experience for the first time.
To achieve the purpose, following questions of research are set ;
First, what is the relation between the infant's temper and affection and the infant's adjustment to nursery?
Second, what is the influence of the infant's temper and affection on the infant's adjustment to nursery?
This study distributed 300 questionnaires to 10 nurseries in Pohang and Gyeongju city and collected 274. Removing some insincere data, 262 questionnaires were used for analysis. Scales used in this study were PTQ questionnaire to measure preschool children's temper, PITQ teacher's questionnaire to measure infant's temper, and Temper Ratings Scale that Cheon, Heui-Yeong(1993) developed to stereotype the temper of Korean infants from 3 to 7 years old that was collected at mother's interview. As for affection measurement scale, Klaburn Bowlby(1976)'s Isolation Worry Test that Kim, Yeong-Ji reproduced in picture to fit to domestic culture was used. As for adjustment to nursery scale, this study revised and supplemented to use Iowa Infants' Social Competency Scale that Pease et. all(1979) originally developed and then Ban, Yun-Jeong(1997) reproduced to fit to domestic preschool infants.
Investigation of the relation between infant's temper and adjustment to nursery based on the study showed that the better the adaptability, emotionality and reactivity is and the lower the activity is, the better the infants adjust to nursery. Also the higher the affection is, the better the infants adjust to nursery. As for the influence of the infant's temper and affection on the infant's adjustment to nursery, when the adaptability, emotionality and reactivity is high, activity is low and affection is high, infants can adjust to nursery.
