The purpose of this study is to examine the factors related to nurse practitioner's burnout in Medical welfare centers. This study focuses on the determining the causes of nurse practitioner's burnout and finding the ways to prevent burnout they experienced.
For this purpose, the study investigates the variables which influence
nurse practitioner's burnout and clarifies the associations between factors and burnout. In order to identify the aforementioned associations, this study selects three specific factors: socio-demographical, job, organizational characteristics.
The data were analysed by frequency, T-test, One Way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis using SPSS 11.5 for windows.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, nurse practitioner's burnout level was above the average, especially, the emotional exhaustion and the lack of achievement showed relatively high level of overall burnout.
Second, in socio-demographical variables, the most correlated with nurse practitioner's burnout was a health condition, followed by age, sex, marrage and education.
Third, it was found that heavy workload showed a remarkable correlation with overall burnout of nurse practitioners. It was, also, found that a clearly defined job description has a direct influence on burnout. The more clearly defined the job description the less likely is the occurrence of burnout. And a relationship with colleagues and supervisor was statistically significant.
Based on the study results, several implications were induced as follow:
First, It is needed to have a health program for the nurse practitioner to enhance their physical condition.
Second, It is needed to have a specific job description based on scientific job analysis to prevent a heavy workload and a srole confliction.
Third, It is needed to stress on membership training program to improve the relationship between colleagues and supervisors.
Forth, It is suggested to have diverse formal and informal communication route to fortify a communication delivery system.
As discussed above, the burnout experienced by nurse practitioner is not determined by any single factor, but is affected complicatedly by the dynamic combinations. It is hoped that more future studies would examine this subject to explore more practical ways by setting more diverse social variables.
