The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of study skill training on the study skills ability and self-efficacy, achievement motivation in the elementary school students.
To achieve the purpose of this study, the following questions are set.
First, what kind of difference will the elementary school students experimental group have study skill training on the study skills ability than the control group.
Second, what kind of difference will the elementary school students experimental group have study skill training on self-efficacy than the control group.
Third, what kind of difference will the elementary school students experimental group have study skill training on the achievement motivation than the control group.
To solve these questions, two classes of sixth grade(The experiment group N=31, The control group N=32) were chose.
The experiment group had gone through the training 35 times for three month from August 27th 2005 to December 7th 2005, and the control group had no training. Both groups took the pre- post tests of Study Skill Training on the Study Skills Ability and Self-Efficacy
The study skill training program is revised based on Chang-jin Byeon's study skill training-habit test program (1991), Han-sook Park's study skill training program which was used on the effect of study skill training on the achievement motivation and achievement(2000), Yong-gyeoi Byeon's study skill training for elementary school students, and teachers' reference books.
As for the statistical process of the result, we produced the mean and the standard deviation and carried out T-verification by using SPSSWIN(version 12.0).
The results from this study were as follows:
First, the experiment group that had undergone the training improved the study skills more than the control group.
Second, the experiment group improved their self -efficacy meaningfully. when it comes to the subcategory of self-efficacy, the experiment group showed higher self-esteem, self-control efficacy and task difficulty efficacy. The control group showed less self-esteem in the post test.
Third, the experiment group showed higher achievement motivation than the control group
This implicates that the study skill training helps students to get self efficacy that they can do and achievement motivation by learning how to study.
Therefore, the study skill training should be carried out as an alternative plan to improve study skills, self efficacy and achievement motivation in the school.
