This study investigates the effect of program for heightening learning motive on learned helplessness and self-efficacy of 30 7th grade students. Furthermore, following studies are set to prove that the program can be an alternative plan for the students who lost their interests in school life caused from failure in achievement.
First. The experimental group will have less learned helplessness than the control group.
The experimental group which took the program shows meaningful results that students have less learned helplessness in the four domains (a lack of self esteem, depression, negative cognition, passivity, a lack of control) among six domains(a lack of self esteem, depression, negative cognition, passivity, a lack of control, a lack of durability, a lack of responsibility).
On the other hand, a lack of durability influenced learned helplessness even though it's not that meaningful level. The control group also shows less learned helplessness in the pre-post test, but it's from students' attitudes to start a fall semester since this program starts in September.
This result proved that The Program for Heightening Learning Motive is effective to boost learning motive which is crucial for learning and achievement.
Second, the experimental group who underwent The Program for Heightening Learning Motive will increase their self-efficacy.
The students of the experimental group increased in 3 sub-domains(preference of task difficulty, self-control efficacy, self-esteem) in the test of the program over self-efficacy. This result implicates that The Program for Heightening Learning Motive helps students to believe that they are going to succeed in the future by inverting their negative thoughts to positive direction.
Especially, Self control efficacy was the domain to test if an individual can performs self-control mechanism such as self-judgement, self-observation well. Such a high range of increase implies that the self-estimation for the present behaviour can give rise to a change in their behaviour such as a new planning, which also conforms to the experimental objective of the Program for Heightening Learning Motive.
This study has shown that students who participated in this program decreased their learned helplessness and increased self-efficacy. This result proves that the Program for Heightening Learning Motive is effective for the students who are considered as normal not gifted.
Therefore, as mentioned at the purpose of study, the Program for Heightening Learning Motive can be an alternative plan for the students who lack self-esteem due to the failure in achievement if the program is applied properly using time like after-school classes or special activity classes.
