The purpose of this study was to examine what attitudes two groups of young children who are exposed to integrated education and aren't respectively took toward disability and what changes a disability- awareness program brought to non-disabled young children's receptive attitude toward disability and their relevant behaviors.
The research questions were posed as below:
    1. Are there any gaps in receptive attitude toward disability between non-disabled preschoolers in integrated class and non-integrated class?
    2. Does the application of disability-awareness activities make any effectiveness to non-disabled young children's receptive attitude toward disability?
    3. Does the application of disability-awareness activities make any effectiveness to non-disabled young children's behavioral development?
The subjects in this study were preschoolers who belonged to the six- year and seven-year classes at day-care centers and regular kinder- gartens in the city of Masan and Changweon, south Gyeongsang province. The selected day-care centers offered integrated education, and the regular kindergartens didn't. The non-disabled young children in the non-integrated classes were divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. The experimental class was educated to understand disability, and the control class wasn't. For data handling, SPSS program was utilized.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, regarding the young children's receptive attitude toward disability in the integrated and non-integrated classes, the preschoolers in the integrated classes, where they received education with disabled children, took a statistically significantly better attitude toward disability than the preschoolers in the non-integrated classes.
Second, the receptive attitude of the experimental class that learned to be aware of disability showed statistically higher improvement after the experiment than the control class did.
Third, the experimental class that was taught to understand disability made a statistically more progress in emotional development and prosocial behaviors after the experiment than the control class did.
The above-mentioned findings suggested that contact experience with the disabled played a vital role in boosting young children's under- standing of the disabled and improving their attitude, and that even children in non-integrated class could view disability more favorably when they acquire information on that.
Accordingly, early childhood education institutes should try to provide a wide variety of disability-awareness and education activities for non- disabled children to have a positive outlook on the disabled.
