The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of social skill training on the interpersonal relationship of ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) children. 12 boys, diagnosed as ADHD by a psychiatrist based on DSM-Ⅳ, were participated in this study. All of them were with the medication for five weeks. Six of them received additional 10 sessions of social skill training each for 60 minutes, twice a week. The social skill training was the modified form of LeCroy's program which was composed of self-instruction training, modeling, role-play and video feedback. Employed assesment measures were social skill application degree, perceived competence scale for children, psychiatrist's social behaviors assessment and role-play behavior observation scale.
The results of the social skill training group showed a significant improvement in social skill application degree and role-play behavior compared to medication alone group. In addition, it was clarified that the participants who had social skill training marked lower scores in psychiatrist's assessment for problematic social behavior than the medication group without social skill training.
In conclusion, this study indicates that social skill training was effective on the interpersonal relationship of ADHD children.
